Shift: Rotating nights to meet department needs
Position Summary:
Paramedics will serve in the Emergency Department in capacities consistent with their level or training and scope of practice. All work performed in the emergency department will be done under the clinical supervision of the Emergency Department attending Physician. When working in an emergency department-based role, the administrative supervision will be provided by the emergency department nursing leadership team.
Major Responsibilities:
- Establishing and maintaining peripheral IV access
- Administering medications and fluids within scope of licensure and ED policy
- Monitoring patients for any acute changes and communicating such changes to primary RN or physician.
- Working in a collaborative fashion as part of the care team with PCA, Unit Secretary, and RN staff.
- Assist with procedures and patient care activities at the request of the ED physician and in accordance with ED policy
- Transporting critical patients to and from areas of the hospital while monitoring for any acute changes.
- Maintaining assignment as delegated by Flow/Resource nurse.
Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
- Certification as an Paramedic by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
- Certified in CPR - Basic Rescue by either the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association.
- Certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support by the American Heart Association.
Preferred:
- PALS

- Demonstrated ability to work well under often stressful situations.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
