Position Summary:
The Paramedic is responsible for performing patient triage, standard tests, procedures, medication administration, and patient care, under the direction of a provider, within a clinical setting.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
1. Ability to respond to emergency situations and make decisions without supervision
2. Triage patients and assist in determining medical problems, administer IV's and medications through provider orders
3. Initiates and maintains intravenous lines, administers fluids and medications as directed
4. Performs pre-physician exams, collaborate with providers and other medical staff when examining or treating patients, giving injections, removing sutures, and applying splints and dressings
5. Take direction and initiate actions that will allow the assumption of cross-functional team actions to ensure seamless patient care
6. Assist providers with patient care or communicate urgent needs to increase level of patient care
7. Authorize medication refills as per providers' direction and provide prescription information to pharmacies
8. Collect blood, tissue, and other laboratory specimens through routine in-house testing procedures, and analyze and prepare for testing, and log results
9. Document patient care and procedures utilizing appropriate forms and electronic medical records system
10. Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements and Qualifications:
• Education: High school graduate or equivalent is required.
• Certificate/License: Current Certification as a Paramedic. Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS certification.
• Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience is preferred.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:•
- Requires prolonged sitting, frequent standing, bending, stooping and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, telephone, photocopier, calculator and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eye sight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports. Requires an uninhibited driver's license to accommodate travel to off-site meetings and workgroup sessions.
- Fast paced clinical office setting with possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions. All employees are required to comply with federal, state and organizational policies regarding confidentiality. Requires the ability to work under stressful conditions and occasionally work irregular hours.
