Job description

Develops and implements strategies to enhance relationships, and rapport with local Emergency Medical Service (EMS) agencies and Mental Health Services for partnership. Acts as a resource for incidents that impact area EMS agencies. Coordinates with hospital service line leaders, Emergency Department (ED) leadership, Senior Leadership, and agency coordinators to provide timely feedback, quality metrics, and educational opportunities to EMS agencies and EMS Medical Director. Responsible for the coordination of monthly EMS meetings. Addresses Hospital staff and provider concerns related to EMS. Partners with Emergency Management, professional practice, and hospital service line leaders to ensure education/preparedness for required training. Develops curricula for monthly educational programming and creates framework specific agency education requests. Accountable to the ED Director and be responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of education for EMS and issues Continuing Education Units (CEUs). The EMS Liaison demonstrates current knowledge of EMS practices, regulatory requirements, policy, and procedures, and supports the ongoing education of employees and community stakeholders. Partners with the Director to ensure smooth transition of EMS transfers. Reviews EMS patient encounters for quality concerns and provides patient follow-up to EMS agencies on request. Provides follow-up for EMS agencies needing documentation for billing. Emergency Preparedness - Represents Memorial Health at required Central Ohio Trauma System (COTS) Regional Healthcare Emergency Preparedness meetings. Provides hospital staff with education related to preparedness including Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) training and Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) Management. Interfaces with DNV surveyor for emergency preparedness standards. Coordinates decontamination team training and equipment maintenance. Maintains inventory of preparedness supplies. Coordinates Emergency Preparedness activities with Union County Public Health. Retrieval and delivery of special supplies and equipment pertinent to disaster operations and coalition member support. Generates, reviews, and updates hospital preparedness policies. Management and support of mass messaging system. Provides incident data to local, state, and federal entities including supply counts, patient census, blood, vaccines, and medical countermeasures. Interface with local law enforcement and corrections facilities. Maintains hospital requirements and troubleshoots problems for the Multi-Agency Radio Communication System (MARCS). Maintains knowledge in all-hazards response [biological incidents (pandemics/Ebola), chemical incidents, MCIs, and provides update to Environment of Care (EoC) Committee]. Completes regular monthly inspection of decontamination equipment, supplies, collection tank level, and shower. Acute Stroke Ready Hospital (ASRH) Program Coordination – Enters and maintains data for stroke program. Presents data at the Medical Staff (MSQ)/Executive (MEC) meetings with EMS agencies for stroke education and follow-up. Generates, reviews, and updates ASRH related policies. Provides education to nursing staff related to the ASRH program. Participates with other hospital departments (Pharmacy, Imaging) to address concerns, provide positive reinforcement to their efforts, and discuss activities for improvement. Communicates with Stroke Program staff for concerns, updates, and program changes. Employee performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital and its department’s Ethics and Compliance program and is responsible to detect, observe and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, or upward through the chain of command, the Compliance Officer, or the hospital hotline. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements
EMT, Paramedic, or BSN Prepared RN (Registered Nurse) with 3-years of Emergency Preparedness Experience. Must possess and maintain American Heart Association BLS, and American Heart Association ACLS. Must maintain American Heart Association PALS required within 6 months from hire. Must be willing to obtain and maintain ACLS and PALS instructor certifications within 6 months of hire.
