SalaryBasic Function: Under the direction of the Executive Director of the Bearcat B.E.S.T. transition program,the Employment Specialist will connect students with disabilities with community-based, competitive employment. Working on campus and in the community, this person assesses skills, establishes relationships with businesses and gives individuals the tools and support needed to be successful
Qualifications: The Employment Specialist will possess:
- An earned Bachelor?s degree in education, social work, psychology or a related field
- Current FBI clearance, PA Criminal Background Check and Child Abuse clearance;
- Valid PA Driver?s license.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, along with strong human relations proficiency.
- Exceptional organizational skills
- Knowledge of individuals with disabilities and strategies needed to master skills in vocational settings
Essential Tasks:
- Supervise and manage of team of job coaches and student assistants.
- Assist with field research measuring the efficacy of transition programming.
- Collect data and analyze data for instructional decision-making, and for implementation of appropriate instructional and behavioral interventions.
- Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all program participants.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with parents, and College faculty and staff.
- Confer with parents, administrators, school district personnel and other professionals in the development and administration of each participant?s Individualized Education/Transition Plan.
- Provide crisis intervention as needed in a variety of settings.
- Maintain professional competence by participating in staff development activities, curriculum development meetings and other professional activities, including presenting at conferences.
- Drive minivan and/or 12-passenger van as needed to transport students between learning environments.
- Help students with disabilities secure competitive integrated employment through job recruiting or job development.
- Facilitate work assessments or job trials to evaluate a student?s interests and abilities.
- Discover job opportunities, build and maintain relationships with employers and promote sustainable competitive integrated employment.
- Communicate and work with the school team to complete vocational placements and ongoing skills training
- Report to the vocational leaders
- Complete the appropriate paperwork in a timely manner
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of the Bearcat B.E.S.T. program.
Physical Requirements: Employees are regularly required to sit, stand, kneel, bend, stoop, walk about campus, and ambulate steps. Additionally, for safety reasons, employees must be able to assist in possible physical interventions in order to maintain a safe learning
