Job description

The ideal candidate will have experience and knowledge of the Paid Family and Medical Leave laws, rules, and business processes. They will have advanced employer customer service interaction and experience in employer or benefit investigations.

You will be a vital member of the Compliance Unit and are solely responsible to investigate employee complaints due to the employer possibly committing an unlawful act by interfering, restraining or denying their employee's right to take Paid Leave and/or discharged the employee for taking Paid Leave. This position is very independent. A successful candidate would work solo for long periods of focused time to review the evidence provided to make a determination if an unlawful act violation occurred. This full-time permanent position is 100% telework and may need to occasionally attend in office events or meetings.

NOTE: Only current employees of the Employment Security Department are eligible for this opportunity.As a Compliance Investigator, you will iInvestigate unlawful act complaints and make a determination if the employer has violated PFML laws and rules.
Some of what you'll be doing:
  • Review complaints alleging an Unlawful Act has occurred.
  • Decides if complaint falls within the Unlawful Act statutes.
  • Investigates complaint by contacting both the complainant and employer.
  • Fact-find/Investigate the allegations by reviewing received evidence.
  • Decide if a violation has occurred.
  • Compute damages assessment based on submitted evidence.
  • Communicate to complainant and employer results of investigation.
  • Educate employer on PFML roles and responsibilities, if needed.
  • Work with Appeals Team and may be required to attend hearings.
  • Partner with policy and operation teams on defining laws/rules around unlawful act statutes.

Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, public administration, law, or related field.
OR A combination of education and/or relevant experience,
OR One (1) year as a PFML Specialist 2.
Education to Experience Equivalences:
Associate Degree = 2 years | Bachelor Degree = 4 years | Masters or Higher = 5 years

Applicable degrees include:
Business or Public administration| Accounting | Law | Or Related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of PFML rules, laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Advanced employer customer service interaction. Experience in employer or benefit investigations.
  • Master's degree in business administration, accounting, public administration, law, or related field. Knowledge of ESD rules, laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Active license as a Certified Public Accountant (C.P.A).
  • Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Fraud Examiner (C.F.E), or other auditing certificates.
    • Three (3) years of demonstrated experience in two or more of the following areas: Conducting research.
    • Analyzing policies, laws, rules, or regulations.
    • Conducting business analysis and developing requirements
Additional Requirements of Employment:
  • Must be able to pass an Unemployment Insurance (UI) Claim & Benefit Information Review.
