Job purpose

The Employee Health Nurse is responsible for the creation and management of occupational health programs and infection control training programs at Heartland Community Health Center to support employees' health and safety.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Employee Health Assessments:
    • Perform health assessments for new hires, including reviewing medical histories and conducting physical examinations.
    • Monitor and manage ongoing health assessments for existing employees.
    • Responsible for all pre-employment testing and vaccinations processes, annualN95/TB/Influenza testing and/or vaccinations and the management of potential blood exposures, employee illness and disease outbreaks.
  • Occupational Health and Safety:
    • Collaborate with safety and risk officers to ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
    • Conduct workplace assessments to identify potential health hazards.

Develop or lead training sessions on topics such as infectious diseases, chemical exposure and the use of personal protective equipment.

    • Coordinate and maintain records of employee BLS/ACLS certifications.
  • Immunizations and Vaccinations:
    • Administer or coordinate immunization and vaccination programs to prevent the spread of communicable diseases within the workplace.
    • Coordinates the development and implementation of all Employee Health initiatives and programs including the annual influenza, COVID, and TB immunization clinics.
  • Injury and Illness Management:
    • Provide initial assessment and first aid for workplace injuries or illnesses.
    • Collaborate with healthcare providers for the management of more serious medical conditions.
  • Employee Assistance Programs (EAP):
    • Support the implementation of EAPs to address mental health and personal issues affecting employees.
    • Supporting employees post work injury including triage, first aid and arranging for off-site treatment.
    • Responsible for the FMLA leave program and supporting employees through this process.
    • Responsible for supporting employees with all work injuries and providing administrative oversight for OSHA regulatory requirements including maintaining all documentation and logs.

  • Record Keeping and Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate and confidential health records for employees.
    • Document health-related incidents, interventions, and follow-up actions.
  • Collaboration with Healthcare Providers:
    • Coordinate with external healthcare providers and specialists for Employee Healthcare needs.
    • Facilitate referrals for additional medical examinations or treatments.
  • Emergency Response:
    • Develop and implement emergency response plans related to health and medical incidents.
    • Provide support during workplace emergencies.
  • Health Screening Programs:
    • Organize and conduct health screening programs, such as blood pressure checks, cholesterol screenings, and wellness assessments.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Lead clinical orientations for new hires including all infection control and HIPAA training.
    • Maintain Employee Health databases, maintain complete and accurate Employee Health records.
    • Participates as an integral team member, collaborating with Risk Management, HR, and Quality and others as needed to advocate for Employee Health and safety.
    • Ensures compliance with state and federal requirements, accreditation bodies including but not limited to HRSA and OSHA standards.
    • May develop policies and procedures for pre-employment and on-boarding processes for employees.
  • Infection Control & Prevention
    • Assist with the coordination of the infection control program which includes surveillance; analysis of data; developing reports, policies, and procedures.
    • Participate in the Infection Prevention and Control and Clinical Safety Committee to determine the direction of surveillance activities and actively evaluate effectiveness of the Infection Prevention and Control Plan annually.
    • Participate in infection prevention and control education of all employees during orientation and annually thereafter, including classes in infection prevention and control practices and Employee Health.

Qualifications

  • Current Kansas RN license
  • Current BLS/ACLS certification
  • Experience in occupational health or Employee Health nursing strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, concepts, and procedures as applied to the care of the patient population served.
  • Assessment, triage, diagnosis, planning, and implementation of a plan of care that is patient and family centered, developmentally and age appropriate, and culturally relevant.
  • Ability to collaborate, plan, develop, and evaluate evidence based standards of care
  • Knowledge of how to record multi-systems monitoring data, and other data relevant to the patients' care in a retrievable form.
  • Ability to collect and analyze patient data to improve clinical outcomes.
  • Computer skills to navigate Electronic Health Record software; eCW experience preferred.
  • Federally Qualified Health Center or public health experience preferred.
  • Five years' experience in medical facility required.
  • Three years of supervision experience desirable.

Working conditions

  • This role completes tasks that are performed in close physical proximity to other people.
  • This role requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.

Physical requirements

  • Moves equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Moves throughout the building or locations to meet with employees, patients, or visitors.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position during shift.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Frequent communication with patients about their experience at the health center. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Operate a computer and other office equipment, such as tablets, scanners, printers, and phones.
  • Adhere to process protocol or procedures.

  • Schedule: Full-time (Exempt)
  • Schedule: Full-time exempt.
    • Hours Mon-Friday 8:00AM-7:00PM (as needed) (average 40 hours/week)
  • Full-Time employees have an expected workweek of 40 hours
