LBX Company LLC, maker of Link-Belt excavators, forestry, demolition, and scrap/material handling equipment, has an immediate opening for a Emerging Technology Specialist.

Position Summary:

The Emerging Technology Specialist identifies, investigates, and recommends the application of appropriate technologies that meet the needs of LBX as we work toward our corporate plans and goals. The goal of the Emerging Technologies Specialist is to appropriately apply available technologies to solve problems and to meet our Mid-Term Plan (MTP) & Long-Term Plan (LTP) goals.

This position provides and facilitates continuous advancements, aiding respective trainers in training solutions for Sales & Marketing, Customer Support, and Safety for LBX Company. This training will familiarize trainees with the product and technology LBX has to offer. This position also will aid in the evolution of the value to customers through customer/end user aids within the LBX distribution and organization.

Essential Functions:

75%-* Emerging Technologies:*

  • Work with LBX Operational Management Team: identify, investigate, introduce, and develop new technologies that appropriately address the needs of LBX’s customers, distribution, and internal employees. Assist LBX personnel in the creation of business planning that address market needs to catch up with and/or exceed the competition.
  • Researching and Identifying Trends: Investigates and researches Emerging Technology trends in the construction industry and related industries including, but not limited to machine learning, artificial intelligence, virtual/augmented reality, and internet of things that would increase operational efficiencies. Additionally, leading analysis sessions with LBX personnel to define opportunities for new or improved solutions.
  • Implementing Emerging Technology: Assembling appropriate LBX personnel to implement emerging technologies shown to increase operational efficiencies and customer value improvement. Working with appropriate third-party vendors to apply the appropriate technologies into the LBX and customer ecosystem.
  • Educate Personnel: Present, educate, and demonstrate emerging technologies to the appropriate LBX personnel and how they could impact, benefit, or enhance our business.

10% -Telematics Data Analysis/Mining/Utilization:

  • Proactive Monitoring and Excavator Product Development: Champion the internal process of telematics data analytics/mining/utilization to proactively identify trends of current active units to help support Sales & Marketing, Customer Support, Engineering and Innovation and Product Portfolio Strategies teams in the improvement of product and services. The trends identified can then be applied through reoccurring meetings with a cross-functional team to aid in product and services development.
  • RemoteCARE Product Priority Assessment Creation: Take a leadership role within the Platform and development process and work with key stakeholders to consolidate ideas into product planning and develop a logical and organized approach for RemoteCARE development and improvement.
  • RemoteCARE User Interface Development: Assist Customer Support in the creation of competitive User interfaces including PC/Tablet/Cell Phone and Apps to understand the current state of the competitive landscape. Assist the Innovation and Product Portfolio Strategies group in the development of the vision for evolved and connected telematics integrated with other LBX and Customer Solutions. During development and evolution of telematics, this position will work directly with SCM RemoteCARE team to further develop the capabilities and understand use of RemoteCARE through North American feedback.
  • RemoteCARE Competitive Assessment: Monitor and create awareness of competitive technology, competitive technology integration and competitive user interfaces and the problems that the competition is able to solve using telematics to be used to develop a short, midterm and long-term vision of RemoteCARE development.

10% -Precision Grade:

  • Help Assist Precision Grade: Assisting the Grade Control team with Dealer orders from our partners and internal stakeholders. Along with helping internal team members create training material to help our dealer network learn and grow.
  • Identify Grade Control Trends: From Competitor to Competitor, you will monitor how they’re marketing and differing themselves from our offering.

5% -Trade show Support:

  • Develop future plans for Trade shows: Assisting in the development of plans for trade shows, from new machines to new solutions. This role is to bring forth ideas to have at events to show LBX is pushing the framework of current machine offering.
  • Assisting Trade shows: Helping support trade shows when the department needs representation. This could be product knowledge or helping with the administrative work of a trade show. This aspect is reliant on the need from other internal departments and could be more some years than others.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Intelligence, and Augmented Reality.
  • Knowledge in augmented and virtual reality environment design and execution.
  • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems.
  • Knowledge in audio and digital video production.
  • Knowledge of Data Mining and HTML.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, think, and work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to work effectively with both internal and external personnel.
  • Excellent time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four (4) undergraduate degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in authoring software such as Captivate, Articulate, GoAnimate, Camtasia, or similar programs.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None, but leadership is required.

Success Factors:

  • Must be a visionary with creative ideas while also being a detail-oriented person who can take a project from conception to implementation.
  • This position coordinates with multiple departments within LBX, as well as outsourced vendors and solution providers. Project management experience, excellent collaboration skills and the ability to foster a positive working environment are critical. This position needs to be an excellent communicator and leader with strong interpersonal and listening skills who continually evaluates and reports challenges and successes.

Travel Expectations:

  • This role can expect to travel approximately 15% of the time both domestically and internationally.

Working Conditions:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting while working at a computer workstation. This position requires spending time in a seated position while working at a computer station for extended periods of time. Work also requires standing, walking, bending, reaching, hearing, talking and lifting (up to 50 pounds).
