Qualifications required
aHigh School Diploma or GED, required and completion of one of the following:
aCompletion of Medical Corpsman program and one year of applicable experience (or)
aCompletion of EMT-P (Emergency Medical Technicians-Paramedic), AEMT (Advanced EMT), Licenses Paramedic (LP) course/program, and one year of applicable experience, National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) (or)
aCompletion of the first year of education and current enrollment in an accredited school of nursing and one year of applicable experience (or)
a3+ years of Emergency Room experience as an ER Technician.
aCurrent BLS and ACLS certifications are required. PALS preferred.
aExperience with IV starts, phlebotomy, and initiation of EKG preferred.
aFluency in English, written, and oral communication.
aCurrent state licensure as issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
aMaintain a level of continuing education and collaborative training.
Essential Job functions and responsibilities
aCollect, report, and document clinical data. Take vital signs, height, weight, intake, output, pulse oximetry, and collect specimens.
aAssist with patient activities and care as assigned by the charge nurse/designee as indicated by the patient's care plan.
aProvide superficial wound care.
aProvide for patient safety related to age and condition.
aMaintain patient privacy and confidentiality of information and records at all times.
aProvide and maintain a clean, safe environment and perform and assist others in performing proper aseptic techniques, isolation procedures, and infection control measures.
aAssist with the admission, transfer, and discharge of the patient.
aLab: shows knowledge and competencies in lab duties.
aPerform laboratory patient testing and reporting as assigned by the Laboratory Direction.
aPerform laboratory tests as described in the Laboratory Procedure Manual.
aMaintain a current Procedure Manual.
aCollect appropriate specimens from patients.
aChecks two patient identifiers before collection and labeling.
aLabels specimens at the patient's bedside.
aPrepare or instruct patients for specimen collection in the age-appropriate dialog.
aPrepare specimens to be sent out to a reference laboratory.
aFollow all laboratory safety policies and procedures.
aRun controls and documents as described in the QC Policy.
aCalibrate all laboratory instruments, where applicable, as described in the Laboratory Policy and Procedures Manual.
aMaintain all laboratory instruments as indicated by the manufacturers. In the event of instrument failure, follow the manufacturer's troubleshooting procedures.
aMaintain laboratory safety equipment properly to ensure effectiveness and maintain personal protection supplies as needed.
aMaintain all laboratory work surfaces; clean and disinfect against potentially infectious material.
aMaintain all laboratory records as described in the Laboratory Policy and Procedures Manual.
aMake all laboratory records and documents available for inspection by the Laboratory Director, Technical Consultant, or CLIA Inspectors.
aOrder laboratory supplies as needed to ensure that laboratory functions and services will not be interrupted.
aFollow all directives in the Laboratory Policy and Procedure Manual.
aMedication Administration
aParamedics may administer medications per Policy & Procedure PM001.
aAll other duties as assigned.
Nonessential Job Functions
aPerforms other duties as assigned by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians' immediate supervisor/department director.
aMaintain patient care areas with appropriate supplies
aAssist with patient restraints and maintain precautions; collect, report, and document data related to patient needs/emergencies and unusual patient and family behavior.
aAttend staff meetings or other company-sponsored or mandated meetings as required.
