The Emergency Department at Rush Oak Park Hospital is currently recruiting for an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join their team. With an annual volume of more than 47,000 patients, the Emergency Department is well-staffed with an average of 58 hours of physician coverage and 40 hours of mid-level provider coverage daily. The newly built emergency room was opened in October 2019 has 22 private rooms. Emergency Medicine (EM) APPs are employed by the hospital and receive a competitive benefits package, CME allowance and paid time off. The Emergency Department is committed to delivering excellent, patient-focused care in a collegial and cooperative atmosphere. Our affiliation with Rush University Medical Center allows for easy transfers of patients requiring tertiary care. Rush Oak Park Hospital is conveniently located 10 miles from downtown Chicago and in a desirable residential neighborhood.
*ACNPs must have pediatrics certification.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a licensed physician assistant (PA) or Advanced Practice nurse (APN) who functions as a member of the health care team to provide high quality, comprehensive acute and/or routine medical care of Rush Oak Park Hospital Emergency Department patients within the scope of practice granted in accordance with the ROPH medical staff bylaws. The APP will promote collaboration between multiple disciplines to ensure cost effective and quality patient care. The individual who holds this position will exemplify the Rush mission, vision and values and act in accordance with the policies, procedures and guidelines of Rush.
Responsibilities:
Clinical
1.1. Completes and documents an accurate history and physical examination of patients.
1.2. Conducts comprehensive or episodic health assessments and develops patient care plans.
1.3. Orders and interprets tests, treatments, and therapies within the scope of practice.
1.4. Prescribes medications, including controlled substances to the extent delegated including non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.
1.5. Orders, interprets, and performs laboratory and other diagnostic tests and procedures.
1.6. Provides clear, concise, and accurate information in the electronic medical record.
1.7. Initiate and perform consultations in accordance with Rush rules and regulations.
1.8. Make appropriate referrals to other health care professionals and/or agencies.
1.9. Provides direct patient care in assigned areas, which is a hospital emergency department setting.
2. Professional
2.1. Works collaboratively with his/her supervising/collaborating physician, department, and other members of the healthcare team in an effective and comprehensive manner.
2.2. Acts as an advocate for patients, families and coworkers.
2.3. Participates in all required focused and ongoing professional practice evaluation activities (i.e. FPPE and OPPE)
2.4. Integrates evidence based knowledge and clinical expertise in decision making.
2.5. Demonstrates competency in all medical and surgical procedures and skill considered essential in their area of practice.
2.6. Maintains board certification, state licensure, and continuing medical education.
3. Leadership
3.1. Supports the organization’s overall strategic plan and direction.
3.2. Serves as a leader of the healthcare team to provide integrated delivery of patient care services.
3.3. Actively participates in ongoing and systematic quality improvement efforts which focus on patient care delivery and supports processes that provide optimal patient outcomes.
3.4. Demonstrates accountability for own professional practice and improvement. Including ongoing self-assessment of core competencies and yearly goals.
3.5. Develops and leads implementation of department goals by collaborating with department staff, students, and physicians.
3.6. Serves as a role model and thought leader for their own profession including practice analysis and advancement to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
3.7. Manages resources effectively thereby considering the institution and practice’s fiscal responsibilities.
3.8. Demonstrates an understanding of patient documentation, compliance, and billing best practices.

4.1. Provides relevant and comprehensive patient education to patients, families and significant others.
4.2. Fosters growth and development of students and other healthcare professionals.
4.3. Continuously assesses their personal capabilities and limitations, striving always to approve their medical practice.
Other information:
Required Job Qualifications:
1. Current State of Illinois Physician Assistant Licensure required.
2. Current Certification from National Certification Commission for Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or other agency recognized by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) required.
3. Degree from an ARC-PA (or predecessor) accredited PA Program required; Master’s degree preferred.
4. BLS certification required; ACLS and PALS are required within one year of employment.
