Primary Purpose of Department:The University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte) Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is responsible for the planning and coordination of the Institution’s operational emergency preparedness, response and recovery from a disaster. OEM adheres to a comprehensive all-hazards, whole community approach to incident management based on the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) National Incident Management System (NIMS).
Primary Purpose of Position:This position will support the Office of Emergency Management (OEM), focusing on the emergency operations plan, business continuity plans, and other relevant documents. The position will also support all planning efforts in the emergency operations center (EOC). The position will report to the deputy director, and work closely with other OEM staff on all planning projects.
- Assists with the creation and/or maintenance of program plans and systems.
- Assists in the improvement of emergency manuals, campus evacuation plans, campus evacuation maps, building evacuation plans, and center city evacuation plans.
- Assists in the development of long-range institutional plans, especially those requiring Safety and Security considerations.
- Maintains proper logs, i.e. Incident Command System forms.
- Develop program/service-specific objectives for new initiatives.
- Assist with the development of reports and other informational materials presented to the campus community.
- Attends planning meetings and collects information which will then be written into proper program form.
- Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and 2 years of experience in the field of Emergency Management.
- Experience with databases and Emergency Management-related software applications.
- Applicable NIMS/ICS certifications.
- Certified Emergency Manager from IAEM.
Necessary Certifications/Licenses:
NIMS/ICS certifications; IS100, IS200, IS700, IS800
Preferred Certifications/Licenses:ICS300, ICS400
