Job Title: EMERGENCY DEPT TECHNICIAN Job Code: 2969 Department (Name/Number): EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES / 10350 Reports to: MGR EMERGENCY DEPT Date: 06/16/2015 FLSA Status Non-Exempt EEO Category 50 505 Pay Grade 107 I. Position Summary: The Emergency Department Technician performs a variety of direct patient care procedures assisting the professional staff, physicians, and/or department leadership to provide mission-driven patient centered care focused on meeting the needs of our patients. II. Position Responsibilities: No. Percent of Time Essential Duty Job Duties 1 45% Yes GENERAL PATIENT CARE - Meets the comfort and hygiene needs of the patient by providing care services such as bathing, oral hygiene procedures, hair care, bed pan/urinal use, skin care and garment, linen and bedding changes. Distributes meals and beverages, takes vital signs, collects lab specimens. 2 10% Yes TECHNICAL CARE - Assists with completion of patient testing and treatment procedures, sets up and primes IV tubing, 12-lead ECG, simple tracheostomy suctioning and care, changes dressings, obtains blood specimens utilizing appropriate skin puncture and venipuncture techniques, performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation, obtains wound and throat cultures. 3 10% Yes EQUIPMENT - Assists physician and professional staff in equipment supply and set up. 4 10% Yes TRANSPORT - Assists with ambulating patients with assistive devices such as crutches and with transfer/transport procedures. 5 10% Yes COMMUNICATION - Performs required documentation and communicates in a competent and effective manner to meet patient and/or family needs and regulatory requirements. Maintains strict confidentiality of patient, employee and department information to ensure patient rights. 6 10% Yes QUALITY IMPROVEMENT - Utilizes time and resources effectively to promote quality and cost outcomes. 7 5% Yes Other department specific duties as assigned. Position Requirements: Minimum Education: Required: High School Diploma plus training acquired through work experience or education Preferred: N/A Specify Degree(s): N/A Residency: N/A Minimum Experience: Required: None Preferred: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience Managerial Experience: N/A Licensure/Certifications: Required: CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) Preferred: Licensed EMT Paramedic State of Illinois Licensed EMT-Basic and/or Paramedic State of Illinois Other: Completion of an Illinois Department of Health program (CNA, EMT-B, EMT-P)with verification, or the ability to prove an equal or higher level of education in a nursing focused program. Computer Skills: Required: Basic Keyboarding Skills Preferred: EPIC Other: Ability to become proficient in EPIC with on-the-job training.
