Position Summary: The Emergency Department Technician performs a variety of direct patient care procedures assisting the professional staff, physicians, and/or department leadership to provide mission-driven patient centered care focused on meeting the needs of our patients. II. Position Responsibilities: No. Percent of Time Essential Duty Job Duties 1 45% Yes GENERAL PATIENT CARE - Meets the comfort and hygiene needs of the patient by providing care services such as bathing, oral hygiene procedures, hair care, bed pan/urinal use, skin care and garment, linen and bedding changes. Distributes meals and beverages, takes vital signs, collects lab specimens. 2 10% Yes TECHNICAL CARE - Assists with completion of patient testing and treatment procedures, sets up and primes IV tubing, 12-lead ECG, simple tracheostomy suctioning and care, changes dressings, obtains blood specimens utilizing appropriate skin puncture and venipuncture techniques, performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation, obtains wound and throat cultures. 3 10% Yes EQUIPMENT - Assists physician and professional staff in equipment supply and set up. 4 10% Yes TRANSPORT - Assists with ambulating patients with assistive devices such as crutches and with transfer/transport procedures. 5 10% Yes COMMUNICATION - Performs required documentation and communicates in a competent and effective manner to meet patient and/or family needs and regulatory requirements. Maintains strict confidentiality of patient, employee and department information to ensure patient rights. 6 10% Yes QUALITY IMPROVEMENT - Utilizes time and resources effectively to promote quality and cost outcomes. 7 5% Yes Other department specific duties as assigned.
