Job description

This role will focus on the execution of consumer-facing outbound email marketing for acquisition, retention, and customer care. This individual will be the primary user of and expert in our marketing automation tool, Braze. This role will be responsible for understanding and segmenting all current customer data, former data, as well as all leads. This is a highly operational and technical role.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is between 70k and 80k annually. Individual base pay may vary within that range depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, relevant education, department equity, training, geography and local wage and hours laws.

Responsibilities

  • Become an expert in our messaging platforms and automation tools.

  • Define business requirements for marketing automation, cross-channel, and ad hoc campaigns.

  • Build automated, multi-touch programs for a number of different audiences and segments.

  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders from marketing, revenue, and customer care teams. 

  • Become highly adept at data segmentation and validation. 

  • Tracking and analyzing campaign results as well as working closely with the Business Intelligence team on importing, exporting, and QA’ing data.

  • Maintain the performance and health of our email program with regard to audience segmentation, list hygiene, and deliverability.

  • Day-to-day execution of McClatchy marketing campaigns, including; setting up email, coding emails, creating/segmenting lists, scheduling, setting up a/b tests, QA, and reporting.

  • Work with the consumer team to build email test plans, define test requirements, implement tests, report on results, and use data to guide and optimize future campaigns.

  • Owning the execution of all consumer emails including creative implementation, asset management, list segmentation, proofreading, and deployment.

  • Regular updating of and optimization of all email templates.

  • Testing all emails before launch for accuracy, tracking, and readability across devices and email service providers.

  • Troubleshooting all emails when needed at time of send.

  • Working directly with our marketing automation vendor for support. 

  • Monitor industry best practices. Integrate best practices to ensure optimal email results, improved deliverability, and compliance around permission-based marketing, privacy, and spam regulation (CAN/SPAM).

 REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Deep understanding of major marketing automation including messaging platforms (Braze or similar), analytics tools (Google or Amplitude), and data visualization tools (Tableau or Data Studio)

  • Experience creating and implementing A/B and multivariate tests

  • Experience building, growing, and optimizing emails in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent project management skills along with excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills

  • Excellent team player; proven ability to apply innovative ideas and critical thinking to projects and the organization's opportunities, and able to work with various teams: creative, IT, analytics, etc.

  • Able to anticipate needs, innovate and flourish in a high-volume, fast-paced environment

  • Strong technical aptitude.

  • Passion and commitment for customer success.

  • Strong organizational skills and a keen attention to detail.

  • Able to collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Comfortable requesting and interpreting data

  • Ability to maintain a high level of productivity while managing multiple competing priorities, and work effectively under the pressure of time constraints in a fast-paced, complex, collaborative, and team-oriented environment.

  • Availability outside of typical working hours for technical support.

  • A strong interest in news and media is preferred.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 3-5 years in a similar CRM / automation role, including experience with email 

  • 3-5 years experience with HTML and CSS for email marketing

  • BA or BS Degree from a four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
