Requisition Number: 52695 Location: Boulder, Colorado City Boulder State Colorado Employment Type: Research Faculty Schedule: Full-Time Date Posted: 27-Oct-2023 Close All Job Summary The Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) is looking for a senior Systems Engineer to join an intriguing asteroid exploration mission currently at the design stage. The role will function as a deputy to the Mission Systems Engineer and be relied upon to contribute to mission-level architecture decisions for this interplanetary science mission. The successful candidate will be asked to contribute across the spectrum of classical Systems Engineering, including requirements management, interface control, planning and execution of milestone reviews, ConOps, risk management, configuration management and integration of specialty engineering functions.

The role will also contribute to integration and test planning and mission operations. The mission is being implemented in partnership with the government of the United Arab Emirates and international travel will occasionally be required. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be As a senior member of the SE team, you will be relied upon to provide mentorship and guidance for more junior team members concerning any aspect of recognized SE practice.

You will have a role across all shared aspects of the mission-level SE effort: Provide leadership through gateway technical reviews Contribute to mission-level architecture decisions Contribute to the maintenance of the Systems Engineering Management Plan Provide direction for mission-level trade studies Act as technical liaison with internal and external customers and partners In addition, this role will be primarily responsible for the following specific tasks within the mission SE portfolio: Coordinate the concept of operations and strategic operational planning Manage technical resource allocations and margins Trend technical resource utilization and oversee technical performance metrics Manage the interface between the space segment and the ground segment Ensure the integrity of data transfer from the science instruments, through the spacecraft, to the ground, and through ground data processing Coordinate mission-level anomaly management function and chair the Anomaly Review Board What You Should Know Due to ITAR requirements, only US citizens and permanent residents may apply. International travel will be required. What We Can Offer The salary range for this full-time position is $132,137.16 - $171,873.49.

Be Boulder. What We Require BS or higher degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related technical field from an accredited institution. At least 10 years of Systems Engineering experience in an aerospace R&D environment.

Detailed understanding of established Systems Engineering practice as implemented by NASA, ESA, and INCOSE. The knowledge of when not to rely on established Systems Engineering practice as implemented by NASA, ESA, and INCOSE. A technical background in an engineering discipline other than Systems Engineering (electrical, mechanical, optical, I&T, software, etc.) What You Will Need Knowledge of the complete space mission lifecycle and hands-on experience at every point in that lifecycle (not necessarily on the same mission).

Commitment, reliability, and the willingness to contribute where needed to get the job done. A mission-level perspective of major aerospace projects and programs. Ability to function well in a team-based environment.

Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Ability to take personal responsibility for projects and work independently. What We Would Like You to Have Experience working on small body missions Familiarity with electric propulsion missions Knowledge of IBM Engineering Requirements Management DOORS Next and Atlassian products (Jira, Confluence) Familiarity with launch vehicle interfaces.
