This short term position(s) will work the 2024 Summer School. Work dates are June 11, 2024 - July 3, 2024 and is contingent upon student enrollment. This position is for grade levels TK - 7th grade.

MEADOWS UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT
CLASSROOM TEACHER - GRADES K-8
Brief Description of Position:
The ability to work as part of a team, to work collaboratively with all grade levels K-8, and to participate in school planning and improvement activities is desired for all candidates. The successful candidate provides a supportive academic and social program for elementary level pupils and assists in other school programs as developed by the staff.
Terms of Service:
185 contract days of which 180 are student school days. Staff development days in addition to contract days may be required, as per teacher contract.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teaches all or any combination of the following: reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, health, art, physical education and music to pupils utilizing a course of study adopted by the Board of Trustees and other appropriate learning activities.
- Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Provides appropriate instruction tailored to meet the needs of English Language Learners.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and/or small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
- Provides planned learning experiences in order to motivate pupils and best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Evaluates pupil's academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, prepares progress reports and communicates with parents on the individual pupil's progress.
- Identifies pupil needs, seeks assistance and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
- Creates with assistance from pupils, a functional and attractive environment for learning through displays, bulleting boards and interest centers.
- Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
- Performs basic attendance accounting and business services as required.
- Assists in selecting and requisitioning books, instructional aids and instructional supplies, an maintains required inventory records.
- Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during teacher's assigned working hours.
- Administers group-standardized tests in accordance with district testing program.
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment and/or on a district level.
- Shares in the sponsorship of students activities and participates in faculty committees.
- Plans, coordinates and supervises the work of assigned aides, teacher assistants and other paraprofessionals.
- Performs such other duties as directed by the Principal and/or Superintendent.
Qualifications:
§ Holds an Appropriate Preliminary or Clear Multi-subject Teaching Credential.
§ Teacher candidates participating in a state-approved internship program will also be considered.
§ CLAD or SDAIE/ELD Certification or program participation is required for all teaching positions.
- Ability to be designated as "Highly Qualified" as per Federal requirement of NCLB - No Child Left Behind regulations.
- Ability to communicate in Spanish is desired.
- Fingerprint clearance by the Department of Justice
- Drug and alcohol testing may be required.

Meadows Union School District Profile
Meadows Union School is a K-8 school rurally located six miles east of El Centro, on Bowker Road. Meadows is a one site-school district with an enrollment of about 470 in grades Kinder - 8th grade. There are over 270 English Language Learner students, about 57 percent of the school population. Currently, Meadows Union School has seventeen self-contained classrooms for grades kindergarten through sixth, one classroom for Intervention, one SDC/RSP designated Learning Center, a Certificated Teacher Coach, and four seventh and eighth grade classrooms. The 7th and 8th grade teachers team-teach in the core subject areas utilizing a departmentalized program. The district also employs a part time speech therapist and school counselor.
The school has a well-stocked library of over 15,000 books making the student to book ratio better than 30:1. Up to 900 books a day are checked out and students participate in improving independent reading comprehension through the Accelerated Reader Program. The school computer lab maintains approximately 35 computers for use by students during the school day. A trained computer technician, who assists students with keyboarding, power point and class research projects, manages the lab.
The support staff is an integral part of the school program. Along with certificated teaching staff, Meadows Union School has two administrators, classroom assistants, four office personnel, five bus drivers/maintenance personnel, four cafeteria workers as well as yard/noon/ hall monitor duty persons.
Additional support personnel from the Imperial County Office of Education provide student services in tobacco, drug and alcohol prevention, psychological and health services. A Speech Therapist is contracted to provide for student's special needs. The Speech Therapist collaborates with the Special Education Teacher on a regular basis. Classroom assistants are multi-funded from Title I, Migrant, Special Education and Economic Impact Aid/Limited English Proficient funding.
The Meadows Union School Lunch Program provides both breakfast and lunch for all students at no charge. A Summer School program is provided each summer for qualified students.
