PRIMARY TASKS & MAJOR ACTIVITIES
Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEP). Provide direct, specialized instruction for students Grades K-6. Perform student individualized assessment and interpretation. Must be able to teach Life Skills, academic skills, and exhibit strong skills in behavior management. Attend/participate in appropriate and relevant meetings and staffings. Initiate and complete required paperwork within established timelines. Collaborate with appropriate staff/individuals regarding student programming and services. Delegate and supervise paraprofessional(s) assigned within the classroom. Must be a team player. Individualized and small group instruction and co-teaching in a team environment. Data collection and strong behavior management. Attend/participate in parent meetings and relevant after-school and/or evening activities. Supervise and evaluate paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom. Have knowledge of and support the building level and district policies. Administer MAP/EOC/MAP-A assessments.
EDUCATIONAL/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Certification in K-12 Special Education, Cross Categorical. Knowledge and expertise in working with the various eligibility categories. Prefer previous teaching experience in a classroom with student(s) with high needs and teaching Life Skills. Training in the area of behavior management is required. Minimum of three years teaching experience preferred. Competent technical skills. Regular attendance and positive interpersonal relationships with staff, parents, and students. Knowledge of appropriate grade level and functional curriculum associated with the position. Knowledge of requirements and previous experience with Missouri Assessment Program (MAP-A) is preferred. Willingness to be trained in appropriate use of seclusion, isolation, and restraint procedures. Willingness to understand and support the District's Comprehensive School Improvement Plan. Must successfully pass a background check and drug test that are satisfactory to the Board of Education.
