JOB TITLE: Elementary School Counselor

Job Goal
To promote student success, provide preventative services and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school-based counseling program that addresses academic and positive personal/social development of students. Provide comprehensive, data driven, developmental supports within the academic, personal/social, and career domains that deliver services equitably to all students. Counselors provide direct student services through school counseling core curriculum, individual student planning, and responsive services. They also provide indirect student services on behalf of the student such as referral for additional assistance, consultation, and collaboration with parents, teachers, and other professional and community organizations.

Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Counseling or related field
- AZ Counselor Certificate
- AZ IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Three years exemplary teaching experience, preferred
- Demonstrated leadership skills
Core Job Function
- Maintain and create a safe, equitable, and inclusive space for all students in office/counseling center
Provide individual and group counseling to meet the developmental, preventive, and intervention needs of students
Follow all ministerial duties to report for mandatory reporting, suicidal ideation, and self-harm
Conduct formal/informal needs assessment and data review to identify critical needs of students to include marginalized population
Design, conduct, and co-teach learning activities in classroom, large group, and/ or school wide settings to facilitate the infusion of school counseling as an integral component of educating the whole child
Demonstrate and apply knowledge of counseling protocols by applying appropriate practice and following policy for safety of students
Assist all students, individually or in groups, in developing academic, career and personal/social skills, goals and plans
Use appropriate counseling processes and techniques for short term solution focused support and small group counseling session
Follow up individual check in/out and small group counseling to monitor student progres
Use appropriate formal or informal assessment for determining and structuring individual and group counseling service
Provide and support prevention programs including student wellness, violence prevention, conflict resolution, anti- bullying strategies, peer mediation, and character educatio
Support and facilitate a positive to school climate and culture that includes students, staff, parents/guardians and other stakeholders.
Measure results of the comprehensive school counseling program and activities and share results with relevant stakeholders to make informed decisions about programs
Support administrator with investigating conduct referrals, incident reports and disruptive behavior
Consult and collaborate effectively with parent/guardians regarding students identified concerns and needs
Serve as a liaison between school personnel and home for children with special circumstances and/or needs
Maintain records of counseling and protect the confidentiality of student records and student information
Implement an effective referral and follow up process as needed
Monitor and case manage progress for targeted students
Develop and coordinate 504 plans for identified students
Review Individualized Education Plans with services required under counseling as a related service and ensure mandated timeframes for collaboration are followed
Participate and apply district, site, and professional based training. Stay current on evidence based practices and engage in continuing education coursework.
Use available technology resources to enhance the school counseling program
- Attend extra curricular school events to build relationships with students, parents, and community at large
- Participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge, skills and support site-based training
- Adhere to laws, policies, procedures and ethical standards of the school counseling profession
- Perform all other duties or serve on district and site based committees as assigned by administrator
