Job Description: Elementary School Counselor
Purpose: The Elementary School Counselor employed by Fulton Science Academy is instrumental in the overall vision of the school in providing the highest level of service to all students in both academic growth and personal/social development. This position works closely with all administration and faculty to best serve our students.
Salary: Annual Contract
Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in School Counseling from an accredited college/university.
- Current Georgia Certificate in School Counseling (P-12) with the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
- Prefer candidates with 3 or more years of experience in an Elementary School setting, and previous teaching experience or work in an academic environment is a plus.
Expectations:
- Provides individual counseling and regular classroom guidance as part of a comprehensive school counseling model for students addressing personal/social, academic, career and family concerns.
- Supports the training of faculty and facilitation of the social/emotional curriculum component for Elementary School.
- Consults with parents, teachers, administrators, and supporting agencies to maximize services for our students.
- Maintains records and facilitates appropriate information sharing on a needs to know basis with faculty.
- Keeps an online log of student, faculty, and parent meetings.
- Oversees students accommodations and follows up with teachers.
- Assists with the process of testing, data collection, and overall academic program when needed.
- Assists with the activities of student organizations and events when needed, including Student Council and Beta Club.
- Prepares club schedules and manages changes.
- Stays informed of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.
- Observes school policies at all times.
- Adheres to all school health and safety policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the principal or other administrative staff which are consistent with the general requirements of the position.
- Keeps an open-door policy at all times.
- Collaborates with teachers to support IMPACT classes and program.
- Contributes to Every Student Matters, Individual Student Goal planning and monitoring
- Coordinates parent institute with different speakers for our parents throughout the year.
- Coordinates and supports teacher wellness initiatives.
- Organizes and supports different school events such as Red Ribbon Week, Counseling Week, Career Week, Students Dances, Awards Ceremonies, etc.
- Oversees student attendance issues and follows up with appropriate communication timely.
- Coordinates and supports school character school application and progress monitoring.
- Takes an active role in student redirection and guidance based on the student code of conduct.
- Supports the school-level leadership team members by taking care of any duty assigned by FSA assistant principals.
