Generation Non-Nuclear Gas & Oil Plants are seeking qualified individuals for the position of Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Apprentice. The Apprenticeship Program is designed to develop a non-skilled or semi-skilled worker into a proficient, multi-skilled journeyman who is competent in all the process of their trade. This is accomplished through on-the-job training supplemented by the study of appropriate technical and theoretical subjects related to the particular trade. Successful apprenticeship candidates will support the efficient and cost-effective production of electric energy by performing both process control instrumentation maintenance and high and low voltage electrical equipment maintenance as they develop the skills of their craft. Previous education and experience in process control instrumentation installation, calibration & repair and/or electrical construction & repair is preferred. Knowledge and experience in power plant or industrial plant operations and maintenance is also a plus.
Minimum Requirements:
- Eighteen years of age.
- High school diploma or GED (must submit a copy of diploma or equivalent).
- Possess a valid driver's license.
- Completed a College Algebra course or higher and submit transcripts or applicable documentation showing a grade "C" or better. College placement test documentation or Joint Services Transcript will be accepted in lieu of college transcripts.
- Must be currently enrolled in or have completed one (1) semester of AC Electrical theory or equivalent and submit a transcript, Joint Services Transcript, or equivalent showing enrollment or successful completion of the course with a passing grade of "C" or better. The APS Generation AC Theory Course will be accepted.
- Applicants who submit documentation of enrollment must provide documentation of successful completion of the course with a passing grade of “C” or better by April 30th, 2024
- Display aptitude, attitude and adaptability necessary for the trade.
- This position requires working with aerial equipment, which has weight restrictions of 300 lbs or less.
Selected candidates who have met the minimum qualifications will be subject to the following requirements:
- Pass a written aptitude exam - Maintenance Selection System Test (MASS).
- Selected candidates that have not already completed the MASS test or are eligible to retest will be invited to take the MASS test as part of the selection process
- Must successfully pass a written evaluation.
- Must successfully pass a physical field evaluation.
- Must successfully complete a panel interview.

Additional requirements for selected candidates:
- Work under the terms and conditions of the Apprenticeship Standard Agreement
- This apprenticeship is approximately 3.5 years.
- Written and practical assessment tests may be administered to determine potential for advanced standing in the Apprenticeship Program.
- Starting wage may vary if advanced standing in the program is granted.
- An E&I Journeyman position will be awarded to the successful candidates after completion of the Apprenticeship Program.
- Successful bidders must live within a reasonable distance from assigned plant locations.
- Shift work may be required, including 12-hour rotating shift.
- Job rotation between crews is required.
- Reasonable and necessary overtime is required.
