Job Summary:
Principal Imaging System Electrical Engineer is a key role inside Minnetronix Optics Key Technology Segment providing technical leadership for the business focused on development, testing and manufacturing of optical Imaging Systems. This role will work within a team as the subject matter expert in Imaging System electrical systems, and lead technical discussion with customers, lead technically in architecture definition, design implementation of optical products and move those products successfully into volume production. They will contribute to substantial and strategic assignments on major projects of high complexity. Assignments will often be broad in nature and require substantial experience, creativity, and ingenuity. Project work and medical devices will range across capital equipment, wearables, to single-use devices. KTS Subject Matter Experts will have critical project technical leadership responsibility and may act as Lead on most projects, including coordinating/assisting the work of engineers from other disciplines.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate on multidisciplinary system design tradeoffs with team related to imaging: camera selection, field of view, pixel size, magnification, frame rate, image processing architecture definition, and image corrections such as flat fielding, white balance, gain, and image tuning for customer applications
  • Digital and/or analog electronic design and development of embedded systems
  • Component and/or system-level electronic design and test implementing DFM best practices
  • Printed circuit board development, build, and test
  • Devise, test, and debug system-level architecture for new products of moderate and significant technical complexity
  • Design and develop sensor interfaces including A/D conversion, filtering, etc.
  • Develop and perform hardware verification testing
  • Participate in product requirements definition, analysis, project planning, and design reviews
  • Write design specifications
  • Assist with agency compliance testing in accordance with EMC and IEC 60601-1 standards
  • Research, evaluate and inform on emerging technologies and products
  • Lead functional initiatives and/or manage technology advancement projects
  • Provide task estimates in support of projects and provides significant input to new proposals
  • Provide strategic leadership for process improvement initiatives and technology innovation
  • Capable of clearly defining appropriate technical approaches, tradeoffs, and solutions to the most mission-critical challenges
  • Define critical project criteria to ensure project completion
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • BS degree or eq. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Physics
  • 9-15 years' experience with BS; or 6-9 years' experience with an MS
  • Must be skilled and have expert level understanding of Electrical Design for Imaging and Illumination Systems
  • Experience selecting and driving image sensors, implementing image system controls and corrections (i.e. white balance, auto exposure, auto gain, illumination flat fielding and uniformity, distortion)
  • Thorough understanding of Image quality metrics and measurement techniques, including MTF, illumination flat field and uniformity, debris detection, color balance, color temperature, SNR, dynamic range
  • Experience with design of electronic control circuits for PMTs, lasers, LEDs
  • Must be skilled at and have expert level understanding of analog and digital circuit design, embedded system and microcontroller-based design, sensor interfaces, A/D conversion, filtering, and PCB schematic design to support new Class II/III medical devices
  • Must have extensive/broad knowledge in an Imaging or Optics related field of specialization
  • Must be proficient at quickly solving high-complexity electrical problems under high-visibility circumstances
  • Must have strong communication skills
  • Demonstrated project planning skills
  • Passionate about product development and commercialization
  • Demonstrated track record of inspirational and effective leadership style - exhibiting good judgment
  • Must have experience evaluating, setting up and managing specialized or new suppliers with supply chain implementation for manufacturing
  • Medical device experience preferred but not required
Working Conditions:
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Limited travel to customers, partners, or suppliers as part of project scope or business development
