Electrical Engineer - Power Distribution, Protection & Control

 

Amp Industrial Services, LLC. is seeking an Electrical Engineer with industrial power, switchgear, and field service experience. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three (3) years of power engineering experience including project management, design, testing, and commissioning of medium voltage switchgear.

 

Amp Industrial Services (AIS) is a privately owned company formed by individuals with over 70 years of combined experience in the manufacturing, installation, and commissioning of industrial electrical equipment. Must have requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) -Power Systems Focus
  • EIT Certification or PE (Electrical Power Engineering)
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
  • Reside in or near Alabaster, AL

Required Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience in medium voltage Power Distribution equipment/switchgear manufacturing (including design and field start-up)
  • Experience in power systems analysis, CAD, schematic development, power system modeling
  • Experience in specifying parts and BOM development
  • Self-directed, able to work independently.
  • Willingness to learn and take constructive criticism.
  • Ability to stand for particularly sustained periods; frequent walking, reaching, pulling, stooping, lifting, pushing, grasping, climbing, and balancing.
  • Willing and able to work occasional weekends, Holidays, and extended weekday hours.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug test
  • Must wear Personnel Protective Equipment PPE (Hard Hat, Safety glasses, Gloves, and Hearing protection as required).
  • Able and willing to travel.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare project specifications for material and equipment purchase and installation.
  • Review of internal and external designs for code compliance, good design practice, and constructability.
  • Resolving site queries, attending site meetings, and performing site inspections during the construction phase of projects.
  • Maintaining complete project documentation concerning substation design and construction, including all completion packages, as-built requirements and return data information.
  • Making and maintaining appropriate commitments to project teams and coordinating design activities with multi-disciplined project team members.
  • Maintaining good working relationships with internal groups that support projects.
  • Performs assignments independently with instruction as to the general results expected and with guidance from the Manager of Engineering and/or Lead Engineer on unusual or complex projects
  • Design, manufacture, and commission medium voltage metal-clad switchgear
  • Develop complete engineering design packages, including AC one-line and three-line diagrams, DC schematics, logic and functional diagrams, panel layouts, interconnection diagrams, relaying equipment specifications and bill of materials
  • Involvement in RFQ proposals
  • Design protective relay systems
  • Bench test switchgear post-manufacture
  • Field installation, testing/troubleshooting, and start-up commissioning
  • Relay settings development, testing, and commissioning activities
  • Power systems analysis using commercially available software packages such as ETAP, SKM, and EasyPower
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical functions of electromechanical/digital relays, MV contractors, MV circuit breakers, and MV disconnect switches
  • Complete administrative and project management responsibilities as they relate to work activities (BOM development, submittals, scheduling, field reports, testing data sheets, customer deliverables and job closeout, project billing, etc.)
  • Work with customer engineering and procurement teams as required to maintain positive customer relationship management skills.
  • Confidently and comfortably present technical solutions to key customers, respond in real-time to technical, concerns, and answer questions in a knowledgeable articulate manner.
  • Participate in client meetings/job site visits to collect or deliver design and engineering data.
  • Safely perform work tasks observing best practices, identify, report, and correct unsafe work areas.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Full Time
  • Salary at $80,000 - $115,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
  • Excess Straight Time pay for work over 40hrs/week (8hr/day when traveling)
  • Annual Performance Bonus, up to 18% of Salary (not guaranteed, dependent on independent performance and company performance/profitability)
  • 6-month performance evaluation salary increase (Not guaranteed, dependent on independent performance)
  • 12-month performance evaluation salary increase (Not guaranteed, dependent on independent performance)
