Location: Hybrid - Telework and Onsite, Philadelphia, PA.

The Electric Power and Control Application Engineer for Laboratory Support Services will be responsible for supporting the Naval Surface Warfare Center Philadelphia Division (NSWCPD). NSWCPD Division 44 is responsible for Electrical Power and Propulsion Systems as well as test labs to include layout, fabrication, and installation of test equipment, and modeling and simulation support for electric plant control systems.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support to assist with NSWCPD Division 44 test site design, installation, and maintenance in accordance with industry and NAVSEA standards for electrical test and safety. Assist with maintaining, reviewing, and drafting specifications, test procedures, and safety plans.

  • Provide studies and reports on components tested and utilized in Division 44 test sites including switchboards, circuit breakers, voltage regulators, motor-generator sets, power electronics, and generators.

  • Perform pre-installation design checks at each of the Test Lab sites to verify current configuration of spaces, equipment, utilities, and power interfaces.

  • Provide engineering support and expertise to assist with the development, evaluation, and execution of testing plans to support equipment qualification in accordance with MIL-STD-1399 requirements for electrical power interface standards. Analyze and evaluate test results to confirm equipment compliance with MIL-STD-1399. Coordinate and adjudicate technical nonconformance with NSWCPD and appropriate Field Activities.

  • Provide support for test and evaluation of networked computerized control systems as well as software programming.

  • Develop test plans, test reports, commissioning procedures, engineering drawings, and engineering studies and analyses. Support program and system level design reviews.

  • Develop software models in support of current and future NSWCPD Division 44 land-based test efforts using current and future ship electric and propulsion plant designs. Implement real-time simulations on targeted hardware. Support reporting and documentation requirements for modeling and simulation and Controlled Hardware in Loop (CHIL) development.

Basic Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship and Secret Security Clearance (or ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance)

  • B.S. Degree or Higher in Electrical Engineering

  • 2+ years of experience working power systems for U.S. Navy ship designs.

  • Experience in the design, development and troubleshooting of control system programs. 

  • Ability to work independently, in person and remotely, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team

  • Excellent MS Office skills, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of time

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possess knowledge of Groups, Algorithms, and Programming (Woodward’s GAP windows based software program) software programming and troubleshooting.

  • Experience with MATLAB Simulink and ETAP.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $63,050.00 - $113,975.00
