Job Description
OVERALL JOB PURPOSE:
Responsible for the management and performance of electrical engineering and maintenance activities in connection with high voltage power distribution systems, utilization systems, electronic control, communication and data collection systems associated with underground mining operation, surface coal handling facilities and all surface power distribution.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Develops, implements and monitors safety action plans, pre-work examination, safety evaluation processes, and internal safety monitoring processes to meet Wolverine Fuels safety objectives.
- Plan, organize, schedule and coordinate with the Maintenance Manager and other departments all electrical activities for both surface and underground operations.
- Prepare specifications for all electrical equipment, high voltage transformers, cables and other such equipment.
- Develop, implement and assist in training programs to ensure that the mine site has qualified electrical personnel.
- Keep current on advances in technology that can be utilized for increased efficiency, and safety.
- Develop, maintain and refine electrical programs and plan for improvements on equipment and/or processes.
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems, developing solutions to minimize reoccurrence.
- Develop planned maintenance programs for various electrical equipment systems; ensure compliance with MSHA regulations.
- Make comparative cost estimates for proposed construction, necessary equipment and suggest vendors as based on technical comparisons. Monitors cost reduction plans and productivity improvements.
- As necessary, develop Petitions for Modification, and MSHA approvals for field modifications.
- Maintain adequate records on all electrical equipment.
- Develop procedures, goals and objectives for the assigned area of responsibility.
PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- A.S. or B.S. in Electrical Engineering or relevant experience
- 5 10 years of underground and/or surface mining electrical experience
- Utah Mine Foreman and Electrical certifications
- Possess the technical background and skill required to resolve critical electrical maintenance problems
- Previous supervisory experience
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication (oral & written) skills
- Capable of multi-tasking, self-directed
- Excellent computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) with ability to learn local maintenance software program
