What You Will Do

As the Staff Design Engineer – Electrical Sustainment, you will work with other product engineers, R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing, and Project Management to ensure success. You will mentor others and independently develop, modify, evaluate, and verify electronic components for medical devices. This is a unique opportunity to learn all areas of Stryker and to work with a variety of products. The project timeline is fast paced, and you will work to solve problems and create efficiencies within the Finished Goods Operations product lines.

Technical Responsibilities:

  • You will work with suppliers to independently modify and update the design of Electrical Components and sub-systems for medical devices.
  • You will develop and apply advanced circuit and electrical system test methods.
  • You will conduct or design advanced prototyping and testing.
  • You will conduct advanced problem solving, identify potential solutions, and evaluate them against component and sub-system requirements.
  • You will conduct and design research and studies to support advanced product design.
  • You will Interpret user needs to update design inputs and specifications, then produce advanced component and sub-system level designs.
  • You will analyze and correct complex product design issues, using independent judgment.
  • You will independently balance design tradeoffs while designing a component of the system.
  • You will evaluate eBOMs for high-risk component availability concerns, as well as, identifying potential cost savings opportunities.

Business Responsibilities:

  • You will help maintain product lines by applying in-depth knowledge of customer needs and market challenges.
  • You will proactively identify and address upcoming component availability concerns across the Stryker Instruments portfolio.

Med Device Compliance:

  • You will use industry standards, including design requirements and test strategies per applicable regulations.
  • You will lead the creation and refinement of engineering documentation, such as the Design History file.
  • You will follow R&D procedures like design controls and risk management, per the Quality Management System.

What You Need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline required
  • 4+ years of related work experience required

What We Would Love That You Have

(Preferred Qualifications) (You do not need all of these)

  • Advanced understanding of Electrical Components and manufacturing methods including common failure modes.
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, and test electrical designs.
  • Working knowledge of the electrical design process.
  • Proficiency in the use of CAD and/or other circuit design and analysis tools to design.
  • Knowledge of standard technologies used in industry.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze system drawings with basic Mechanical/Software/Electrical Interactions.
  • Knowledge of sub-system, system, and environmental interactions and how to design to them.
  • Understands the advanced theory and methods of component engineering and can apply them independently
  • Ability to understand industry trends and utilize industry standard tools (e.g silicon expert) to identify end of life cycle components.
  • Understanding of different component parameters and their technical significance
  • Ability to find alternative components by performing parametric comparison with existing components.
  • Proficiency in circuit schematics with ability to run electrical simulations to propose right alternates.
  • Proficiency in documentation and data analysis with sound understanding of change control process.
