2nd SHIFT / MONDAY- FRIDAY / START BETWEEN 2:00-4:00 PM / 10-HOUR SHIFTS / SOME SATURDAYS

JOB DESCRIPTION:
A FurnaceOperator is responsible for the overall operation of an Electric Furnace that melts iron. The operator measures ingredients, adjusts furnace controls, detect deviations from standards, record gauge readings, interpret work orders, and collects samples for tests. They also inspect and make repairs to the ladle between uses.
GENERAL JOB DUTIES:
  • Repair of metal pouring ladles by chipping off unused iron using chisels, hammers, bars, etc..
  • Inspect furnace and ladles after curing and repair cracks or other defects
  • Load furnaces with scrap iron utilizing an overhead crane
  • Identify measure and add alloys to ladle iron pouring preparation.
  • Observe and adjust controls to maintain the temperature between specified limits.
  • Maintain and communicate with production regarding the proper temperature of iron.
  • Recognize safety hazards and follows safety guidelines for personal protection and the protection of fellow workers.
  • Knowledge of all safety regulations regarding melt shop processes.
  • Knowledgeable of environmental rules and regulations, and effectively apply them to all work situations.
  • Collaborates with the manufacturing team to ensure product conformity.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Foundry Environment – Work both inside and outside in all temperatures and climate conditions in accordance with heat Stress procedures
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), metatarsal boots, safety glasses, respirator, Greens and Silvers
  • Handling and Moving Objects- Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning and moving materials.
  • Controlling Machines and Processes- Using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes.
  • Inspecting Equipment, Structures or Material to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects
  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Close and distance vision is necessary as well as depth perception and the ability to see colors.
  • Performing General Physical Activities- Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling materials.
