Job: Elderly Shelter/ Hospitality Staff

Amos House plans to operate a 36-bed shelter for men and women who are elderly and unhoused and in need of shelter and supports to help them find suitable housing. The CNA will provide shelter guests with overall assistance with their daily needs. The CNA will be someone with a great deal of compassion for the elderly, have experience with the unhoused population, and willing to work as a part of a team.
Specific duties include:
Hospitality staff will have strong communication and conflict resolution skills; clear boundaries and an understanding of the needs of those who are homeless. Shelter staff must have an ability to handle difficult situations in a swift, calm manner.
Responsibilities:
· Assures safety and security of all guests in the shelter at all times
· Assist guests with Activities of Daily Living including feeding, bathing, dressing when needed
· Hospitality staff will model appropriate communication skills as dictated by program management
· Monitor distribution of meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner
· Provides supervision and monitoring of guests
· Provides positive modeling of behavior, language, promptness and responsibility for guests.
· Maintains shelter log, especially documenting incidents that occurred during shift, making sure guest are compliant with room chores, appropriate behavior in common spaces, supervision of their children, curfews etc.
· Manages communication problems in the shelter and any other issues that arise during the shift
· Conducts hourly rounds of the entire shelter, checking on all guest in all aspects of their activities
· Checking egresses and entryways to ensure there is no loitering.
Notify Program Coordinator of any suspicious activity, unauthorized activity, significant behavior changes on the part of the residents in the shelter when issues require an elevated level of intervention and guidance
· Shelter staff must comply with all the aspects of guest confidentiality.
· Assure guest have completed chores (bathrooms, living space) assist when deemed necessary
· The shelter staff on duty is ultimately responsible for the cleanliness of the shelter, including your working space
· Checks all belongings of incoming guest for unauthorized items (food, alcohol, drugs, weapons, etc. and excessive clothing).
· Shelter Staff must attend all required shelter staff meetings. These will be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance by the program manager
· Shelter staff must have a strong understanding and working knowledge of the importance of boundaries between staff and residents
· Shelter staff are prohibited from selling and/or purchasing items to and from program guest, using guest to perform personal services or borrowing money or other goods.
· Shelter guests are forbidden from giving ride to or accepting rides from clients housed in the shelter.
Requirements: 2 years’ experience working with individuals impacted by homelessness. CPRS/CHW/ or other human services certificate a plus.
This is an awake position for all three shifts. Must have strong communication skills and an ability to self-regulate and help guests regulate when distressed.
Salary: $18/hour. Benefits after successful completion of probationary period.
