EKG Technician - Stony Brook Children's Service, UFPC

Location: Lake Grove and Commack, NY

Schedule: Full Time

Days/Hours: Monday - Friday; 8:30 AM - 5 PM 

Pay: $20.67 - $25.83

SUMMARY: The EKG Technician is responsible for performing EKG studies and the associated administrative paperwork. The incumbent will download EKG records and review and analyze results accordingly.

Job Duties & Essential Functions:

• Set-up and placement of cardiac monitoring devices such as Holter monitors and event recorders (Ziopatch, Biotel, Cardiolink). Perform good quality cardiograms via the computer system in the Pediatric Cardiology Department.
• Review EKG after performance to ensure optimal quality, screen for arrhythmia and notify providers of concerns if an abnormality is suspected.
• Read orders from the physician concerning the specific test requirements.
• Explain the purpose of the test and procedures to patients to gain their cooperation and to reassure anxious and apprehensive patients.
• Catalog outstanding studies, ensure that reports are routed to the appropriate physician.
• Match orders with cardiograms; log, sort and distribute.
• Complete a daily EKG Technician log sheet.
• Ensure all patients are seen in an expedient and timely manner in the examination rooms in the outpatient facility.
• Maintain assigned carts and inform supervisor of mechanical problems.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by management.

Required Education & Qualifications:

• High School Diploma/GED.
• Completion of an EKG certification program.
• Must have excellent (written and oral) communication skills.

 Preferred Qualifications:

• Pediatric experience is preferred.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with patients, staff and medical providers. The employee must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. This position is largely sedentary and requires the employee to remain stationary for a majority of the day. Any additional physical demands will be outlined and provided by management.
