LUCAS Coatings is looking for an EHS Specialistto transform our safety efforts and our growing manufacturing facility in Alsip IL, just south of Chicago, where LUCAS produces silicone, acrylic and asphalt-based coatings, sealants and adhesives for the commercial roofing industry.
As an EHS Specialist you will have responsibility for EHS planning, administrating, and overseeing workforce safety at multi-locations in Alsip and Chicago, IL. Your primary duties are to ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Association (OHSA) guidelines to reduce work-related injuries. You will guide safety best practices at your assigned locations using training tools, conducting safety inspections, and processing/tracking worker’s compensation claims.

Your primary duties are to ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Association (OHSA) guidelines to reduce work-related injuries. You will guide safety best practices at your assigned locations using training tools, conducting safety inspections, and processing/tracking worker’s compensation claims.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Participates in site compliance, review, and audits (internal and external).
- Contributes to the EHS system data maintenance, report creation and analysis.
- Responsible for the upkeep of EHS physical and online files.
- Compiles data necessary for monthly EHS activity reports, statistics and measurements.
- Delivers on time information when asked to research, investigate, and analyze information.
- Assists with assessing and diagnosing EHS problems and hazards including formatted EHS documentation and action plan.
- Recommends solutions and options to address gaps in EHS or other areas of work.
- Participates in regulatory inspections as assigned: vendor, internal, government, or other.
- Required to maintain current EHS knowledge and regulations pertaining to RM Lucas business activity. Provides notice of changes, updates, or financial impact to appropriate management.
- Partners with departments about training compliance and safety initiatives.
- Provides research on topics and best practices as required.
- Edits and designs safety procedures, technical documents, and other work products.
- Composes correspondence and postings pertaining to safety.
- Priorities conflicting needs, handling matters efficiently, proactively, and following-through on Projects to successful completion, often with deadline pressures.

Work Environment:

Physical Demands:
- Lift up to 30 lbs. on an occasional basis floor to waist.
- Carry up to 30 lbs. on an occasional basis up to 25 feet.

Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of specific EHS topic experience in an industrial or manufacturing company.
- Direct tactical and administrative EHS experience Strongly Preferred.
- Able to maintain a calm and positive demeanor, particularly when faced with intense situations.
- Present strong communication skills with the ability to actively listen to others as they relay information. Practiced written skills including information presentation, and comfortability speaking to a diverse audience in both interpersonal and large group settings is a must.
- Demonstrated abilities to research various topics, find useful information, and provide solutions.
- Prior experience applying individual judgement and available resources to various situations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, particularly with a sense of urgency.
- Exceptional organizational skills and detail oriented.
- Displays efficient time-management skills by meeting deadlines while multi-tasking, stopping/starting work assignments, and redirecting attention as necessary.

Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational H&S, Environmental Sciences, or equivalent mix of education and experience.
- Helpful Certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CHI), or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM).
Computer Skills:
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Verifiable experience with Environmental, Health, and Safety Management Systems.
Total Compensation Package:
- Compensation up to $75k/year
