Arcadis is seeking a EHS Specialist to join our Places Infrastructure team in Seattle, WA. This position is located on site.

Role description:

As the H&S Specialist you will survey active construction sites of capital projects for compliance or non-compliance with safety standards, assist with the review of contractor submitted safety documentation to include job safety analysis, and reporting of audit findings for corrective actions and metric reporting. 

Role accountabilities:

  • Evaluate contractor safety records/programs and maintain a list of approved contractors
    • Perform pre-qualifications; maintain records for contractors
    • Review, revise, and update evaluation methods to bring them in compliance with Environmental, Health, & Safety ("EHS")
  • Monitor the contractor's field activities to verify the work is being performed in compliance with approved safety plan, client policies and industry best practices. 
  • Maintain EHS program document library SOPs, guidance documents, policies, forms, etc.) 
  • Review, revise, and update documents; issue new forms, SOPs, or guidance docs when required. Develop / maintain strong working relationships with contractor safety representatives 
  • Report all serious on-site conditions, near misses or incidents to the EHS and Project Managers and Delivery Lead. 
  • Exercise stop work authority if serious conditions or behaviours are identified. 
  • Assist the EHS Manager as requested to prepare action plans for reported safety deficiencies 
  • Train PMs and Associate Project Managers ("APMs") to use the EHS program tools (SRAs, PTWs, HHPTWs, JSAs, SSOs)
  • Maintain 100% training rate among PMs and APMs
  • Organize and lead Safety Risk Assessment ("SRA") meetings prior to start of construction
  • Hold SRA meetings for 100% of construction projects
  • Evaluate and track permits-to-work ("PTWs") issued by PMs and APMs
  • Issue High-Hazard Permits-to-Work ("HHPTWs") at contractor work sites
  • Perform site inspections ("SSOs") at contractor work sites
  • Evaluate SSOs performed by PMs and APMs
  • Maintain records of monthly safety statistics from contractors
  • Recognize and reward safe crews 
  • Organize and lead quarterly contractor meetings
  • Share tracked safety data from the previous quarter, 4 times a year 
  • Respond to incidents on site, organize and lead incident investigations

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Associates Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Health Sciences, Construction Management or related field 
  • 5 + years of experience provide safety management of capital construction projects 
  • Field safety experience including monitoring compliance and submitting incident reports

The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $122,000.
