Job Title: Health, Safety, and Environmental Engineer

Location: Greer, SC

Industry: automotive, manufacturing

Status of Hire: full-time, direct hire

Pay: $80-105k

 

Responsibilities:

•       Conduct environmental and safety inspections and audits, including but not limited to: air emissions, hazardous waste, universal waste, storm water, wastewater, first aid, PPE, daily walk-throughs, etc.

•       Conduct HSE audits of contractor activity

•       Manage and file records and documentation specific to Health, Safety and Environmental, including SDS

•       Create and revise HSE communications, work instructions, and procedures

•       Update HSE documentation (e.g., risk assessment, impact analysis, etc.)

•       Conduct research to support HSE (supplies, PPE, etc.)

•       Assist in the implementation and auditing of the HSE Control Plan

•       Assist in the development and coordination of the facility’s waste management and recycling programs

•       Conduct shipments of hazardous waste

•       Conduct HSE Training, specifically RCRA, DOT

·        Ensures the establishment, implementation, maintenance and effective operation of the Environmental IMS, ensures that the requirements of this system are communicated, followed, and maintained

·        Helps to ensure Environmental, Health, and Safety control plan is fully implemented (Training, Maintenance, Sampling, and monitoring…)

·        Helps identify unsafe conditions and environmental risks and recommends action plans

·        Analyzes accidents, incidents and occupational illnesses to set action plans with management

·        Analyzes the data and recommends actions. Support in Liaise with external bodies (insurance companies, local legal entities…)

·        Acts as Internal Auditor for ISO 14001 program

·        Has the authority for the approval of new chemicals for use in the plant, and the assurance of management

·        This position has the authority and responsibility to stop any process that endangers the safety or health of personnel, significant impacts on the environment, as well as the quality of the product that affect our customers, ensuring that the corresponding procedures are followed within the IMS

·        Follows up EHS action plans implementation

·        Support  Energy management programs

·        Provides EHS inputs for the IMS system

·        Contributes to safety audits and the Top safety observation program

·        Together with management and MRO buyer, supports sourcing and validation of appropriate personal protective equipment

·        Checks the conformity of each new facility, production means and of each chemical product used on site, and participates in the validation of plant lay out

·        Check if the site follows insurance requirements regarding fire prevention and protection and reports progress to local management

·        Support that EHS induction procedures are properly organized

·        Support all new employees training on EHS rules and standards (including temps)

·        Liaises with sub-contractors and maintenance team to establish the prevention scheme, follows up closely the works in progress

·        Analyze suppliers conformity to established processes

·        Keeps all necessary documentation up to date and inspection related emergencies equipment , eye wash stations and Chemical management

·        Analyses safety and environmental annual requirements and communicates to EHS Manager

·        Support in the coordination of emergency preparedness activities and is part of the response and coordination efforts committee during these emergencies (Spills, and others)

 

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelors degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or similar

• 5+ years of experience managing health, safety, and environmental functions in an automotive or heavy industrial manufacturing facility

• Experience with wastewater, hazardous waste management, hazardous materials transportation, environmental permitting, chemicals labeling

• RCRA Hazardous Waste Management Certification and DOT Hazardous Materials Transportation Certification preferred

• Experience implementing complete Hazardous Waste Program

• Experience writing training programs and work instructions, conducting training, implementing visual management, making recommendations for PPE, storage, layout, conducting weekly inspections, conducting shipments of hazardous waste, etc.

• Experience implementing DOT training program, waste program (non-hazardous)

• Background in identifying waste streams, color-coding, source containers

• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

 

**Must be authorized to work in the US regardless of visa transfer or sponsorship

**Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test, physical, and background check to be eligible for hire
