Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the coordinator of Cardiology/Neurology performs non-invasive testing in the area of cardiology and neurology. Performs other test and clerical duties as needed. Must understand human growth and development in relation to the job description through a clinical approach.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepares patient for EKG test, including giving instructions to make the test effective, applying electrodes and affixing to appropriate body position.
- Prepares EKG tracing and looks up any previous patients records for cardiologist review.
- Maintains daily ledger of EKG tests given.
- Schedules out-patients for EMG, stress tests, and echocardiograms.
- Performs cardiac stress tests involving exercise and precision timing, as orders, with the presence of cardiologist.
- Prepares patients for Holter monitoring equipment by affixing electrodes to specific body parts, instructs patients of their role in these tests.
- Cleans equipment, insures proper working condition of equipment, and reports to malfunctions to supervisor.
- Transfers EKG records to storeroom for possible future use.
- Assume duties of the permanent supervisor in his/her absence.
- Performs EEG tests on in and outpatients, including bedside and neonates in the nursery.
- Performs ECHO tests on in and outpatients, including bedside and act as relief technician when fulltime technician is not available.
- Applies electrodes to previously marked locations using the 10-20 international system.
- Explains procedure to patient and obtains history of patient.
- Transports patients to and from the EEG lab.
- Assists neurologist with EMG procedures.
- Plans and organizes work, defines assignments, and carries out assignments effectively.
- Independently anticipates, obtains, integrates and responds appropriates to the age related patients psychosocial and physical needs.
