Job Description
Reach Out Educational Consulting is the affiliated brand of New York-based Rich Owl International Inc. Our international education company comprises Ivy League alumni, experienced admissions counselors and officers, and elite peer mentors from top US universities. With offices in Shanghai, Singapore, London, and New York, our services include application guidance and counseling for admission to global institutions (high schools and colleges), college preparation and background development, resume building, standardized test preparation, and cooperation with overseas universities’ China programs. We aim to provide a full range of comprehensive planning and personalized private educational mentoring services to international families at home and abroad.

We are hiring counselors and pre-professional advisors who are specialized in one or more of the following areas:
- High school and/or college admission
- Academic advising
- Biology and AP/IB Biology
- Chemistry and AP/IB Chemistry
- Math and AP/IB Math
- Physics and AP/IB Physics
- English Literature and AP/IB Literature
- History and AP/IB History
- Econ and AP/IB Econ
- Computer Science/Data Science/Machine Learning/AI
- Engineering
- Social Sciences and Humanities
- SSAT/SAT/ACT and related standardized tests
- TOEFL/IELTS and related English language tests
- Competition specialists in any of the above fields
Responsibilities
With students:
- Work with students and families to craft a curated list of private schools and/or or colleges, and guide them through the selection process;
- Support students through the admission process (essays, applications, interviews, scholarships, etc.);
- Ensure students are making good progress;
- Carry out regular assessment and homework, as well as grading policies and feedback;
- Help students plan and define curricula, and design daily, weekly, monthly, and/or yearly academic and extracurricular calendars;
- Guide students in the development and execution of subject-related personal impact projects and/or research projects;
- Provide academic and career path guidance;
- Assist students in improving time management, organizational, and study skills
- Guide students and parents through every stage of the learning journey including, but not limited to, content teaching, course selection, standardized testing, extracurricular activities, projects and internships, leadership, and service;
- Manage a roster of students with whom you will be working on a one-on-one basis.
With the company:
- Lead group admissions workshops and clinics for students and parents;
- Create recordings, videos, blog content, and other presentation methods for meaningful and authentic experience sharing;
- Brainstorm, research, and program local community service projects;
- Collaborate as part of a team that includes other counselors and students’ elite peer mentors.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience as a High School Counselor, College Admission Counselor, and/or Independent Educational Counselor;
- Bachelor’s degree required; post graduate degree preferred;
- Deep familiarity with the high school and/or undergraduate college admissions process in the United States, with a desire to remain "on trend" in the field of admissions and counseling;
- Excellent subject knowledge and deep content knowledge;
- A nuanced understanding of how grades, test scores, and the student’s broader academic and extracurricular portfolio relate to the admissions process;
- Capacity for independent learning and growth and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment;
- Exceptional writing skills with a deep knowledge of strategies and ethics of application essay mentorship;
- Exceptional communication and public speaking skills;
- Attention to detail, with strong organizational skills;
- Tech-savvy, with expertise in using web-based tools to advise students;
- Available to work evenings and weekends, as needed, especially during the application season from August through December;
- A "people" person who makes others feel at ease, supported, and reassured, and is engaging, flexible, and collaborative by nature;
- Experience counseling graduate school admissions is a plus;
- HECA or IECA membership, and/or certification of Counselor training through a recognized IEC accreditation program is a plus.
Compensation is $50 - $150 per hour.
