Job Description
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation is recruiting for an Education Associate 1/2 located in Fairbanks!
What you will be doing:
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game's Hunter Information & Training (HIT) Program seeks a dynamic and experienced team member to design, deliver, and coordinate public outreach and education programs in Interior Alaska. Duties will include coordinating and scheduling Alaskans Afield clinics, recruiting and training volunteer instructors, and assisting HIT Program staff with education/outreach opportunities around the state. This position will also be the Interior Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW) program coordinator and assist with training teachers to offer the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP).

The HIT Program, with the assistance of over 500 volunteer instructors, offers quality training and education throughout Alaska.

The Education Associate I/II is part of the HIT Program's statewide team of eight staff and over 500 volunteer instructors engaged in educating the public and recruiting new hunters and shooting sports enthusiasts. As part of this team, the position will work with an array of dedicated volunteer instructors and the general public (all ages) to promote safe and enjoyable hunting and shooting experiences.
The working environment you can expect:
This position is based in the Fairbanks ADF&G regional office, working alongside one other HIT Program staff member and numerous volunteer instructors. The Education Associate I/II will be in contact daily with the public, HIT Program volunteer instructors, HIT Program staff (Anchorage and Juneau), and other ADF&G staff around the region.

  • Ability to envision, design, develop, implement and manage education and outreach programs for a variety of audiences.
  • Good planning and organizational skills are required, as well as strong public speaking and writing skills.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively and coordinate multiple program components and support activities.
  • Ability to work irregular schedules including some weekends, evenings, and overnight stays.
  • Strong understanding of firearms and ammunition, firearms safety, and hunting practices and culture.

Minimum Qualifications
Education Associate 1:
(1) Graduation from an accredited college, preferably in administration and/or education.
OR
(2) Four years of experience in the broad field of education, counseling or administrative services, one year of which was at the advanced clerical level.
OR
(3) Any combination of the above.
Substitution: Graduate study may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Education Associate 2:
(1) Graduation from an accredited college, preferably in administration and/or education. AND One year of experience as an Education Associate 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
OR
(2) Five years of experience in the broad field of education, counseling or administrative services, one year of which was at the technical/paraprofessional.
OR
(3) Any combination of the above.
Substitution: In option 2, graduate study may be substituted for the required specialized experience on a year-for-year basis. Undergraduate study, preferably in administration and/or education may also substitute for the generalized experience in option 2 on a year-for-year basis.

PRATICAL SKILLS EXERCISE
At the time of interview, applicants selected for an interview will complete a task requiring the use of Microsoft PowerPoint to confirm skill and ability to communicate through verbal and written methods.

FLEXIBLE STAFFING
This position is flexibly staffed. The level of the job offer will be based on the selected candidate's eligibility. If hired at the lower level, you will be promoted to the higher-level job class after completing the training plan and meeting the minimum qualifications.
