Essential Duties
1. Checks for grammatical and factual accuracy. Revises and verifies final copy prior to publication. 2. Maintains contact with authors, printers, faculty, staff and others associated with published work. 3. Tracks copy through editing and production stages. Performs layout work, coordinates production schedules, and ensures printing deadlines are met. 4. May assist in writing copy for department, school, and University publications. 5. Performs clerical functions incidental to editorial activities.
Required Education and Experience
Four years of related work experience, two of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and a high school level education; or two years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Position Focus:
The Yale Review Editorial Assistant provides editorial and administrative support to the editor, deputy editor, and managing editor of The Yale Review. The Editorial Assistant supports the editor with day-to-day administration, teaching, and keeps the editor's calendar, as well as helping the editorial team at every stage of the production process for the print quarterly and The Yale Review website. TYR's Editorial Assistant manages the office, and assists with public outreach, event planning, subscription management, and various administrative tasks.
Assists the editor with travel and schedules. The Editorial Assistant helps with closing and occasional editing of articles from writers and works to finalize copy for the issue and for the website, including headline writing and social media help as well as outreach and follow-up after article publication; compiles and synthesizes data, summarizes findings and writes reports, attends and coordinates meetings, updates production process documents and calendars regularly; helps to oversee interns and graduate student fellows, particularly during summer months; helps with subscriptions, business, and fundraising efforts.
The Editorial Assistant is also responsible for the following administrative tasks: Coordinates mailings to authors and subscribers; serves as principal source of information to students, staff, and faculty on policies, procedures, programs, and office activities; greets visitors, answers and screens telephone calls and emails; assesses nature of business and responds to requests for information; screens and responds to mail; coordinates travel arrangements; schedules and coordinates meetings and appointments; orders and maintains inventory of supplies; distributes received mail; manages the editor-in-chief's calendar and appointments.
The Editorial Assistant may also provide coverage for the following tasks: paying invoices, processing expenses, entering purchase orders, and other financial-related tasks.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Related professional work experience in literary magazines, including internships, or relevant Bachelor's degree in a related field. Strong interest in contemporary literature, journalism, and publishing. A cover letter is required for consideration.

Required Skill/Ability 1:
Excellent organizational skills, with strong attention to detail, thoroughness, and follow-through. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, for both internal and external communication.
Required Skill/Ability 2:
Ability to function independently and as part of an integrated team in a fast-paced environment. Self-directed and resourceful; ability to take initiative, problem-solve, and exercise independent judgment. Ability to multitask effectively with demanding time constraints and follow through on tasks without much oversight.
Required Skill/Ability 5:
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook or similar systems. Ability and willingness to learn new technology and systems, such as Workday, AirTable, and more.
