The Returns Associate is responsible for processing incoming returns for the company’s websites and e-commerce marketplace platforms. The return process consists of recording returned online order details, inspecting returns for missing or damaged items, and issuing online refunds to customers when necessary. The ideal candidate for this position is detail oriented, comfortable with data entry into a computer system, organized, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Unload and sort daily incoming returns packages from truck upon arrival.
- Data entry of all returned item details into applicable spreadsheets.
- Inspect items to determine if they will be placed back into inventory for resale or damaged/defective items.
- Identify and document any damages, defects, or missing items for all returns and escalate to Supervisor for processing when necessary.
- Ensure items are properly labeled, sorted, and entered into the computer system for accuracy, reporting, and meeting required deadlines.
- Process refunds according to company and manufacturer warranty policies, including requesting approval from Returns Supervisor when necessary.
- Communicate with the inventory team as needed to ensure eligible resale items are restocked in warehouse.
- Maintain knowledge of company policies and procedures pertaining to the returns and customer service department.
Qualifications and Competencies
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic computer skills and experience including typing, data entry, and use of internet-based software systems.
- Basic knowledge of Google Workspace Systems (Sheets, Docs, Gmail).
- Excellent written and verbal communication and comprehension.
- Excellent attention to detail, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
- Dependability — position requires being reliable, punctual, responsible, and dependable to fulfill job requirements.
- Adaptability/Flexibility — open to change pertaining to job duties, work schedule, and/or with internal processes and procedures.
- Embraces teamwork and enjoys working with others.
- Previous experience working in an e-commerce customer service returns position or similar role in a warehouse/distribution environment is a plus.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, bend and walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and the ability to lift up to 51 -100 pounds with assistance, as necessary. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
Work Schedule
Hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.
Job Type: Part-Time
Pay: $15 - $17/hour
