Job Description
GEI Consultants, Inc. has an immediate opening in their Denver, CO, office for an aquatic ecological technician. Our projects range from long term biomonitoring (fish and benthic invertebrates) to complex ecotoxicological investigations, including terrestrial and aquatic ecological risk assessment at mine sites, refineries, and other industrial settings.
The primary duties for this entry-level position at the technician level will be biological field sampling, stream temperature monitoring, stormwater sampling, data analysis and review, and graphics production. In addition, candidates will be responsible for equipment maintenance and assistance with report writing.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
- Assist with biological field sampling of fish, macroinvertebrates, and periphyton.
- Assist with wetland delineation, water sampling in both remote and urban environments.
- Drive and operation of trucks with trailers.
- Technicians will be required to travel and spend nights out of town working at remote locations over the course of the field season.
- A typical work day consists of an 8-12-hour day with a 30-minute lunch, two ten-minute breaks, and includes irregular hours and irregular starting and quitting times, in accordance with the requirements of the assigned job.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Life Sciences (fisheries ecology, aquatic ecology, environmental science, or related field) - or equivalent experience.
- Must hold a valid Driver's License.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to travel and work extended hours in the field in all types of weather conditions.

- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Positive, flexible, team-oriented approach, with the willingness and desire to work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to work well independently and with a diverse, multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment.
- Please note that selected candidates will be required to pass drug, background, and reference screenings.
