GEI Consultants is seeking an Ecological Restoration Team Lead in our Plymouth, Michigan office to develop and implement ecological consulting and restoration management projects.  This position requires an advanced level of skill and experience in native habitat restoration.  Projects may involve scope development and pricing, proposal and grant preparation, project design assistance, client communication and coordination, project management, project implementation, and/or supervision of field crews.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Assist with project scope and pricing development
  • Assist with bioengineering and Ecological Restoration design
  • Provide project management support, including the tracking of financial performance of projects, supervision of field crews, and regular communication and coordination with clients
  • Supervise field crew of 2-6 team members
  • Assist with the construction and implementation of Ecological Restoration projects including but not limited to – native tree and shrub planting, seeding, erosion control measure installation, invasive species control, etc.
  • Assist with installation of stream bank stabilization projects including bioengineering techniques, coir logs, soil lifts, brush bundles, erosion control blanket, etc.
  • Operation of trucks with trailers, ATVs/UTVs, tractors w/ attachments, skid steers, chainsaws, brushcutters, and small engines/pumps
  • Ability to spend up to 1-4 nights per week out of town working at remote locations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Life Sciences (Ecology, Environmental Science, Botany, Biology, Fisheries, Forestry) - or equivalent experience
  • Five-years of experience with native habitat restoration in Michigan or the Midwest.
  • Experience leading field teams in various types of habitat restoration projects including invasive species control, stream and shoreline stabilization, sediment and erosion control BMP installation, planting, and seeding
  • Standard First Aid, CPR, Commercial Pesticide Applicator's License are preferred.
  • Must hold a valid Driver's License. May also be required to complete commercial driving requirements at the 10,000-26,000 lb. classification.
  • Invasive species identification skills and knowledge of integrated vegetation management methods, including chemical herbicide application
  • Native plant identification skills and knowledge of natural communities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of experience leading field teams in Ecological Restoration related work
  • GPS/ArcPad/ArcGIS experience is a plus
  • Positive, flexible, team-oriented approach, with the willingness and desire to work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to work well independently and with a diverse, multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced, team oriented work environment
  • Please note that selected candidates will be required to pass drug, background and reference screenings
