Job DescriptionJob Title: Exceptional Children Instructional AssistantReports to: Exceptional Children Director FLSA Status: ? East Wake Academy is committed to building a strong foundation of learning while providing our students the competitive edge to win in tomorrow's world.Core Accountabilities: - To assist and support the Exceptional Children's (EC) teacher in the program delivery for all EC students.Responsibilities:- Assists teaching students along the special education continuum. Teaching structure will be a combination of co-taught, small group, and one-on-one and could be "push in" or "pull out," depending on student needs.- Assist with planning and management for students that require more intense support.- Presents subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using agreed upon methods of delivery (whole groups, small groups, and/or individual support).- Assists with checking materials and portfolios, correcting papers, supervising, and testing as directed by the teacher.- Assists with student attendance procedures, record keeping, collecting money, organizing classroom learning spaces, and ordering materials.- Prepares lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations for their assigned classroom(s).- Assist with consultations for students identified but not receiving direct services.- Assessment of student needs and progress monitoring.- Support teachers with differentiation strategies in the classroom.- Promote the inclusive values and mission of the school within the department through a multidisciplinary team approach.- Promote use of assistive/adaptive technologies.- Keep up-to-date on curriculum developments and trends in the field of exceptional children.- Commitment for professional growth through participation in professional learning communities and development opportunities.- Actively engage parents in educational advocacy for their children.- Engage in, develop programming for, and be willing to lead professional development offerings.- Demonstrate knowledge of, and support for, East Wake Academy's mission, vision, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and ethical code of behavior.- Other duties as assigned by the Teacher that support instructional excellence at East Wake Academy.Essential Knowledge:- Belief in the mission and vision of the school and a commitment to support East Wake Academy in reaching and maintaining our mission and vision.- Strong organizational and critical thinking skills, perseverance, and flexibility in solving challenges.- Demonstrate a passion for the education profession and supporting student achievement.- Evidence of effective teaching experience, especially in working with students with exceptionalities.- High level of professionalism Education and Experience: - High school Diploma or equivalent.- Associates degree in teaching or related field.- CPR and/or First aid certified.- Two or more years of experienceWhat you bring to the job:- Possess a work ethic and personal belief system that aligns with the mission and vision of East Wake Academy- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to forge relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and community- Demonstrated organizational and technology skills- Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems- Self-directed with the ability to work both autonomously and in teamsPhysical Requirements: Office Position - Sedentary See Attached Physical Job Requirements Position Sheet Job Title: Exceptional Children Instructional AssistantReports to: Exceptional Children Director Office Position - Sedentary The physical activity of this position.

- Balancing. Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.- Stooping.

Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.- Kneeling. Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.- Crouching.

Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.- Crawling. Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.- Reaching. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.- Standing.

Particularly for sustained periods of time. Approximate Duration 8 hours- Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.- Pushing.

Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.- Pulling. Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.- Lifting. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position.

Maximum Weight 50lbs Average Weight 20lbs.- Fingering. Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.- Grasping. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.- Feeling.

Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.- Talking. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.- Hearing.

Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.- Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers- The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and or heavy equipment.

Physical exertion of the position. (Please check only one): - Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.- Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work. The visual acuity requirements including color, depth perception, and field vision. (Please check only one)- The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.- The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e., custodial, food services, general laborer, etc.) or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e., security guard, inspection, etc.)The conditions the worker will be subject to in this position.
