When working in environments where Pro-Act Restraint training is required, employees will be compensated at a rate of an additional $0.50 per hour (elementary). THE OFFICE OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION IS NOW REQUIRING ALL PARAEDUCATORS TO PROVIDE A COPY OF THEIR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA AND/OR HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPTS OR GED TO MEET TITLE 1, PART A FEDERAL LAW REQUIREMENTS. Summary:The job of PARAEDUCATOR - EMOTIONAL-BEHAVIORAL SUPPORT PROGRAM is done to assist students, teachers and other certificated staff for the purpose of implementing instructional goals; developing students' learning, physical, social, communication, and/or behavior skills; and evaluating students' progress on learning objectives. Program Description:Students that have been placed in the Emotional-Behavioral Support Program have clinically significant social/emotional and behavioral needs. Services are focused on assisting them in altering specific behaviors that interfere with their learning.

A Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) is completed prior to initial program placement with documented results from implementing a Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP). Consideration for program placement can be made based on medical diagnosis and/or prior out-of-district program placement. Students can have difficulty with self-managing behavior, developing interpersonal relationships, and exhibiting expected responses to daily situations.

The program focuses on providing support in these areas within the small group setting through promoting positive behaviors in a structured system. Students may have learning problems or may be approaching/at/above grade level in all or specific academic areas with access to general education curriculum/materials and learning supports as appropriate (LAP/Title I/RSP). Students are included in the general education environment as appropriate and as much as possible.

Consideration for programs designated for students with differing needs (conduct disorder vs mental health) is made. Students participate in all federal, state, and district assessments with needed, practiced, and allowable accommodations and modifications as determined by the IEP team. Services/programs are provided at designated schools.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Assists students, teachers, and other certificated personnel for the purpose of implementing instruction and/or IEP's;Developing students' learning, daily living, physical, social, communication, and/or behavior skills and evaluating students' progress on IEP objectives;Supervises students in the school setting for the purpose of maintaining and providing a safe and positive learning environment;Collaborate with the certificated teacher in order to lead, guide, and/or coordinate students;Works under both direct and indirect supervision using standardized routines;Provides clerical and general classroom assistance for staff (e.g. collecting and inputting data, correspondence, copying, filing, preparing and organizing classroom materials) for the purpose of documenting student progress and providing general support for classroom activities related to learning goals and objectives;Participates in meetings and trainings for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving the employee's skills and knowledge;Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions;The person hired for this position will be required to complete ProACT training and certification;Operates within a defined budget;Performs other duties as assigned.Competencies: Teamwork - Exhibits objectivity and openness to others' views; gives and welcomes appropriate feedback; contributes to building a positive team spirit; puts success of team above own interests; Planning/Organizing - Prioritizes and plans work activities; uses time efficiently; plans for additional resources; conserves organizational resources; Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of computer operating systems; Customer Service - Maintains professional demeanor when dealing with difficult or emotional situations; responds promptly to staff, student and public needs; solicits feedback to improve service; responds to requests for service and assistance; Mathematical Skills - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; Interpersonal Skills - Keeps emotions under control; remains open to others' ideas and tries new things; shows respect and sensitivity for cultural differences; promotes a harassment-free environment; Oral and Written Communication - Listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions; participates in meetings; read and comprehend written and verbal instructions; writes clearly and informatively; Professionalism - Approaches other in a tactful manner; reacts well under pressure; treats others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position; accepts responsibility for own actions; follows through on commitments; Quality - Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; looks for ways to improve and promote quality; applies feedback to improve performance; monitors own work to ensure quality; Safety and Security - Observes safety and security procedures; reports potentially unsafe conditions; uses equipment and materials properly; Attendance/Punctuality - Is consistently at work and on time; arrives at meetings and appointments on time; Dependability - Follows instructions, responds to management direction; takes responsibility for own actions; meets commitments; follows policies and procedures. Frequent standing, walking, pushing/pulling, handling paperwork, reaching above the shoulder, lifting up to 50 pounds independently or over 50 pounds as part of a two-person lift, exposure to blood/bodily fluids, and moderate to loud noise levels.

The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and a generally hazard free environment. Education and Experience:High School graduate or equivalent;Completion of at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (72 quarter credits at 100 Course Level and above); OR completion of an Associate's (or higher) degree; OR have passed the State of Washington Para Pro Assessment;Job-related experience is desired.Required Testing:State of Washington Para Pro Assessment (only required if applicant does not meet the conditions under the Education and Experience section.
