Job Summary

BioKids is a NAEYC accredited Early Childhood program. We are a parent cooperative, open year-round and offer full-time programming for young children. We serve children birth through five years in three classrooms: the Infant/Toddler Program (6 weeks – 24 months), the Discovery Preschool (24 months – 36 months or until potty-training) and the Preschool Program (36 months – 5 years of age). Responsibilities

  • Develop lesson plans to stimulate and develop mental progresses as well as provide

a well-rounded day of activity for pre-school children. Use DAP guidance techniques,

Creative Curriculum Developmental Objectives, provide appropriate activities.

  • Provide intentional daily experiences in accordance to the Creative Curriculum

Developmental Objectives, based on the children’s developmental needs and interests.

  • Will be responsible for the Teaching Strategies GOLD assessment tool and the

assessments for the children in their classroom.

  • Communicate effectively with professionals, parents and children.

  • Extinguishes, or lessens inappropriate behavior and redirects children to appropriate

actions by applying Positive Child Guidance techniques to help children learn to manage

their own behavior in a Positive manner. Models correct techniques for teaching

assistants.

  • Teaches and leads children in music and movement to help them develop memory,

verbal skills and a love for music.

  • Must be able to lift children of up to 30 pounds safely.

  • Interacts with parents and/or guardians to discuss concerns, day-to-day problems,

suggestions, etc. to alleviate concerns and maintain a harmonious relationship.

  • Keep accurate records of client’s program usage.

  • Maintains a healthy and safe environment for children by sanitizing materials daily,

and operating within State Licensing Guidelines.

  • Promotes leadership skills within a classroom team and oversees classroom

assistants to interpret behaviors, and ensure they are working appropriately with

children.

  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently, but show a willingness to take

direction from the supervisor

  • Help maintain NAEYC standards and classroom portfolios.

  • Demonstrates consistent attendance and punctuality

  • Maintains a healthy environment for children by sanitizing materials daily and

operating within state licensing guidelines.

  • Supports the BioKids staff in activities such as: playing on the floor with children at

their eye level, supervising and maintaining ratios at all time, helping children toilet

including lifting children to change their diapers, guiding them through the potty

training process (as directed by the lead preschool teacher), washing hands, cleaning

the classroom, maintaining safe transitions between indoors and playground

(including supervising children outdoors year round) and implementing lesson plans

as assigned.

  • Daily routine care of children including: feeding, diapering, cuddling, playing,

singing, talking, picking children up, holding them, and otherwise providing a gentle

and nurturing environment. You will need to be available and responsive to the needs

of individual children.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Child and Family Development, Early Childhood Development, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); one year of experience; current CPR certification; a current Food Handler’s Permit; and effective interpersonal skills. Twenty hours of continuing education each year in Early Childhood education, and a commitment to provide excellent customer service are also required.

Preferences

Previous child care experience and/or education in Early Childhood is preferred. Candidate must demonstrate an interest in learning about child development and guidance. Some experience working in an NAEYC Accredited program.
