The Early Childhood Special Education Coordinator provides consultation and support to building level administrators, Early Childhood and elementary Special Education staff, and itinerant personnel for students with special learning and behavioral challenges in the area of professional development, programming, and service delivery to ensure high quality programming and increase student outcomes.
Essential Functions
- Serves as a primary resource person regarding Early Childhood Special Education services, programs, and policies ensuring procedures are appropriate in relation to policies required by district, state and federal regulatory requirements.
- Develops training and monitoring systems, and provides consultation and technical support to ensure schools meet federal, state, and district legal compliance requirements for PreK students in Special Education and general education.
- Assists the Director for Special Services with the oversight and monitoring for state performance plan indicators.
- Plans for, coordinates, and supports facilitation of processes and procedures necessary to ensure early identification and assessment of disabilities in children.
- Assists teachers with various professional aspects of their job such as curriculum, classroom management strategies, writing IEPs, facilitating IEP meetings, data collection and assessments.
- Provides intensive coaching (individual or group) related to teaching practices as requested or assigned.
- Assists in data collection and analysis to validate current and prospective initiatives.
- Researches, plans and coordinates in-service training programs for administrators, general education teachers, Special Education teachers, and families.
- Collaborates with others to build instructional capacity in teachers.
- Analyzes, develops, and implements supportive practices associated with transition from Early Childhood programs to kindergarten.
- Works cooperatively with other agencies to meet the needs of families and children served.
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Education, Certification
Master’s degree in job-related area
KSDE, or equivalent, Approved Licensure
Experience
Job-related experience within a specialized field is required

This position generally requires the following physical demands: occasional lifting and carrying up to twenty (20) pounds some pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing.
