Job Summary

Schedule: Monday - Friday (30 hours per week)
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Provide children with a safe and positive learning environment. Plan and implement activities that inspire and encourage social, physical and intellectual development among children. Promote the importance of good hygiene, care and guidance toward others, as well as urge parents to become active in their children's development and growth. Give children the opportunity to explore each day, to help them understand and expand their individual interests and talents, assert their independence, build self-esteem, and most importantly, prepare them as they enter into elementary school.
Provide support and assistance to the Site Supervisor as necessary. Observe behavior and report findings to the appropriate administrative personnel. Assist with the maintenance, cleaning and upkeep of the childcare facility.
Minimum Qualifications
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Job Functions:
  • Maintains job related certifications in accordance with Broward County Child Care Licensing Standards to work in a child care facility.
  • Maintains program credentials to include accreditation, grants and any other certifications specific to program. May include credentials for Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten Program.
  • Provides care and support to children from various ages infant through 5th grade. Responsible for the health, safety and personal welfare of assigned children.
  • Maintains high moral standards; be well disposed around children.
  • Responsible for the opening/closing procedures of the facility in the absence of full time personnel; has access to the keys, knows the alarm code.
  • Prepares curriculum that is informative and exciting and complies with governmental regulations regarding the care of children.
  • Keeps the center's supervisor informed of important information regarding the safety of children.
  • Assists in responsibilities in other duties in the event other personnel are not available.
  • Interacts with parents and provide information regarding their children's progress.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, center events and parent meetings.
  • Performs classroom-teaching duties, follows pre-approved lesson plan. Leads play, reading, and quiet-time activities, which encourage social interaction between children.
  • Supervises assigned childcare service areas; insures that safety precautions are observed; oversees the use of equipment and materials. Cares for and maintains assigned equipment, teaching aids and materials.
  • Assists in organizing, promoting and leading diversified child care activities.
  • Provides direction and mentors subordinates and volunteers.
  • Provides a supportive environment for program participants.
  • Maintains a positive and creative personality to help children learn and have fun throughout the day.
  • Excellent verbal, listening and writing skills.

Additional Job Functions:
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Becomes involved with the community in the promotion of EARLY CHILDHOOD related activities.

Position Requirements/Qualifications
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
  • Required minimum age of 18 years.
  • High School Diploma or a Certificate of High School Equivalency.
  • Ability to successfully pass background screening through Broward County Child Care Licensing and Enforcement Section, as required by Section 435, Florida Statutes.
  • Must have good moral character and ability to pass a Clearinghouse Level 2 Background Check.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a Physician's statement of good health for child care center personnel. The individual must be physically qualified to care for children, be free of all communicable diseases and free of any behavior that may be injurious to children.
  • Child First Aid and CPR certification are required within 90 days of hire.
  • Effective command of English language is required.
  • Completion of the Introductory Child Care Training (40 hours) as documented on the Department of Children and Families Child Care Training Transcript; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform job functions.
  • Successful completion of Early Literacy and Language Development (5 hours) within 30 days of employment, as documented on the Department of Children and Families Child Care Training transcript.
  • Successful completion of Infant and Toddler Appropriate Practices (10 hours) within 90 days of hire, as documented on the Department of Children and Families Child Care Training Transcript.
  • Must have one (1) year of documented experience working with children in a licensed childcare facility; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform job functions.
  • Experience in preparing and implementing childcare curriculum.
  • Knowledge of the principles, rules and equipment requirements for a licensed childcare program.
  • Knowledge of safety precautions and basic emergency first aid procedures.
  • Ability to instruct individual and groups of preschool age children in a variety of childcare activities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, parents and the general public.
  • Ability to maintain routine records, prepare reports and administer assessments.

Must possess one of the following qualifications to meet the Staff Credential Verification requirement and the ability to process the documentation within 90 days of hire as to be verified and documented on the Department of Children and Families Child Care Training Transcript:
  • Active National Early Childhood Credential
  • Active Child Development Associate (CDA)
  • Formal Education Qualifications: B.A., B.S. or advanced degree in one of the following areas: Early Childhood Education/Child Development, Pre-Kindergarten or Primary
  • Education, Preschool Education, Exceptional Student Education, Family and Consumer Sciences (formerly home economics or child development), Special Education, Mental Disabilities, Specific Learning Disabilities, Physically Impaired, Varying Exceptionalities, Emotional Disabilities, Visually Impaired, Hearing Impaired, Speech-Language Pathology, Elementary Education with certification to teach any age, birth through 6th grade
  • A.A. or A.S. degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development
  • Associate degree, or higher, with at least 6 college credit hours in EARLY CHILDHOOD education and/or child development, and 480n hours experience in a child care setting, serving children from birth to eight years of age.
  • Active Birth Through Five Florida Child Care Professional Credential (formerly the Florida Child Development Associate Equivalency Credential - CDAE)
  • Active School-Age Florida Child Care Professional Credential (formerly the Florida School-Age Certification)
  • Employment History Recognition Exemption

Emergency Management Responsibilities
During emergency conditions, all City of Miramar employees are automatically considered emergency service workers. City of Miramar employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and are expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.

This position is Part-time and provides the following benefits:
