Mount Washington Preschool and Child Care Center, Inc. is looking for an energetic, caring, and nurturing teacher to work at one of our Child Care Centers located in Downtown Los Angeles. This is a full-time 40-hour week (M-F) position and is perfect for someone who is passionate and dedicated to working with young children.
MWPCCC is offering a $300 signing bonus at the completion of the 195 days introductory period.
NOTE: Please only apply if you have worked with preschool children in any capacity, and you have at least the required 15 units in the following: Child Growth and Development, Home, School and Community, Curriculum, Infant and Toddler, you must also be continuing your education as this is center is accredited by NAEYC.

SUMMARY: This position is responsible for assisting the Center Director in the management of staff and care; supervising and coordinating learning activities for children enrolled in their assigned childcare center site in accordance with organization policies and in compliance with state and federal regulations, regulations outlined by the licensing agency, and NAEYC.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists the Center Director to provide first-line supervision of their assigned childcare center site including assigned personnel.
  • Supervises staff including the assignment of duties and responsibilities.
  • Monitors and reviews work activities when Center Director is not present.
  • Assists the Center Director in working with teachers to maintain a developmentally appropriate, emergent curriculum that supports children’s overall development.
  • Assists the Center Director in overseeing documentation regarding children’s developmental growth with developmental portfolios which include assessments, observations and reports, and participating in parent conferences if needed.
  • Assists the center staff to plan Family Events, where the teachers invite families into their rooms and do activities set by the teachers.
  • Attends monthly team meetings with Program Service Director and meetings with MWPCCC Management.
  • Assists the Center Director with tuition billing, fees, and collections of accounts when needed.
  • Assists the Center Director in conducting classroom visits for the purpose of observing classroom activities; provides feedback and consultation to staff.
  • Assists the Center Director and participates in the planning, development, and management of the budget.
  • Identifies material and equipment needs for the assigned site.
  • Maintains knowledge of relevant and current state, federal, and health policies and regulations.
  • Assists the Center Director in assure that site operations and personnel are in compliance.
  • Assists the Center Director to plan and scheduling staff to assure coverage in accordance with applicable regulations and efficient use of personnel.
  • Assists the Center Director when conferring with site teaching staff regarding significant and/or sensitive child development or behavior problems or family issues.
  • Regularly inspects site facilities for health safety, fire, and occupancy violation; takes corrective actions as needed.
  • Attends training for updates on Licensing changes.
  • Maintains communication with City/Federal Liaisons and personnel in Center Director's absence.
  • Performs intake and registration tasks, when needed.
  • Performs related duties as assigned by the Center Director, Executive Director, Assistant Executive Director or Program Services Director.
  • Supports the implementation of a culturally competent curriculum, ensuring equity, diversity and inclusion in the center.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Indirectly supervises up to 20 employees within the center.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree (BA) from a four-year college or university, or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certificates, Training and Immunizations required:
  • CPR Infant & Child Certifications.
  • First Aid Certifications.
  • Must have current immunization shots: including MMR, Tdap, TB test, Influenza Shot or waiver.
  • Must be up to date on all required training set forth by the Community Care Licensing division of the Department of Social Services.
  • Computer skills required: Internet Software; Spreadsheet Software (Excel); Word Processing Software (Word); Electronic Mail Software (Outlook).
  • Other skills required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in child development plus 3 units in ECE Administration (or working toward).
  • Must have 3 Infant/Toddler units.
  • Minimum 2 years experience teaching at a child development center.
  • Experience overseeing a developmentally appropriate curriculum for young children ages 6 weeks to 5 years which supports overall growth.
  • Strong knowledge of child development theory and experience with current developmentally appropriate Early Childhood practices.
  • Possess strong supervisory, leadership and communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills to lead and interact effectively with employees, parents, and professionals affiliated with the center.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English to be understood by young children, parents, employees, and professionals affiliated with MWPCCC.
  • Ability to build a strong team and create a nurturing and stimulating environment for children, employees, and parents.
  • Ability to solve conflicts among children, parents and employees in an effective and professional manner.
  • Ability to act quickly and appropriately during emergencies and hazardous situations.
  • Demonstrate the interpersonal skills to interact effectively with employees in a positive, effective and professional manner.
