Job Description
Summary
The Assistant Teacher will be responsible for carrying out a program to teach young children. They must ensure the development and safety of these children in accordance with relevant federal, territorial and municipal legislation and policies. Assistant Teachers will be respectful of children and parents, and ensure that equipment and facilities are clean, safe and well maintained. Failure to provide adequate services may place children at risk. The teachers in the room will decide together how to share responsibilities of the classroom including parent communication, curriculum and daily care needs.
Duties
- Help implement a developmentally appropriate childcare program for young children in keeping with the Montessori philosophy
- Carryout activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of the children
- Provide various experiences for children including presenting materials, songs, games and story-telling
- Assist the Lead Teacher(s) in communicating any health and safety concerns in a timely manner with parents, as well as keeping the administrative staff informed
Requirements
- Must have High School diploma and be 18 years old; Associates Degree preferred
- Early Childhood Education experience preferred
- Successfully complete pre-employment background check, physical and TB test
