Department: Trojan Learning Center
Status: Fulltime, exempt 200 days
Reports to: Director of Trojan Learning Center
SUMMARY OF POSITION: Serve as a district and community leader in the promotion of foundational early learning and child development. Strengthen the network of community partnerships serving children and families and promote, facilitate, and expand existing Early Childhood programming. Design and demonstrate instruction for Duneland children (ages 0-5) and future educators. Teach Early Childhood Career and Technical Education (CTE) dual credit courses to high school students and facilitate service learning, internship and/or work placements. Develop and lead professional development activities for DSC staff and Early Childhood community partners.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's Degree in Elementary and/or Early Childhood (Early Childhood is preferred).
- Eligible to teach concurrent enrollment dual credit, as approved by Indiana Commission for Higher Education preferred.
- Eligible for a work-place specialist license preferred.
- Have a minimum of five years of experience, and a working knowledge of Early Childhood. development for children ages 0 - 5 (before kindergarten), based on the Indiana Early Learning Standards, National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and Division of Early Childhood (DEC) standards.
- Experience in project and people management/leadership.
- Communicate effectively with administrators, principals, teachers, and parents/families both orally and in writing.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Coordinate opportunities for DSC Early Childhood and pre-kindergarten programs
- Coordinate opportunities for DSC Early Childhood, pre-kindergarten and birth-to-school programs
- Provide leadership and support for DSC early learning and co-located programs at the TLC
- Foster collaboration among early intervention services, including DSC developmental preschool, YMCA preschool, First Steps, etc.
- Develop and promote activities and a schedule of events for children ages 0 - 5 (before kindergarten) and their caregivers
- Develop a system of support for caregivers that connects families to DSC schools
- Develop and implement community outreach services that connect families to resources, including developmental screening.
- Work with exceptional learning preschool staff to build inclusive opportunities for students
- Lead DSC Early Childhood Advisory Committee
- Collaborate with kindergarten teachers, instructional coaches, exceptional learning coordinators, and building & district administration
- Lead teacher and caregiver training opportunities
- Assist with Kindergarten Round-up and Child Find
- Manage early entrance requirements for students entering kindergarten
- Prepare reports related to screening results and current trends
- Create intentional and smooth transitions at each point of intercept
- Build partnerships with community agencies, local preschools and/or childcare centers.
- Coordinate, schedule and conduct events with community service providers, agencies and partners
Align curriculum, facilitate staff development and support programming* within the TLC
- Design and implement curriculum to provide instruction to high school students pursuing a post-secondary goal of becoming an Early Childhood provider (birth through elementary school)
- Collaborate with other Porter County Early Childhood CTE teachers to ensure program alignment
- Secure and monitor service learning, internship or work placements for CHS students enrolled in the Early Childhood CTE program or cadet teaching
- Mentor CHS students pursuing credentials in Early Childhood education as part of their internship program, cadet teaching and/or fieldwork experience
*Programming currently includes DSC development preschool, Duneland YMCA preschool, DSC HUB. Future Growth: CTE, YMCA Healthy Living Campus co-located partners, etc.
Collaborate with the community and all key stakeholders to actively advocate on behalf of DSC children and their families to refine ideas and develop partnerships to leverage funds from various sources and create integrated systems of care and support
- Promote literacy and lifelong learning while fostering school-belonging with meaningful family engagement
- Plan and lead DSC staff, co-located partners, and community-wide professional development opportunities and training
- Develop interprofessional communities of practice with K-12 schools, childcare centers, post-secondary colleges and universities, and community partners focused on neuroscientific research, pedagogy practices and continuity of experiences
- Develop and implement an appropriate process for monitoring child outcomes and program evaluation for continuous improvement
- Amplify workforce development for the early care and education professional pipeline, including distribution of program materials and attendance/participation in related meetings and trainings
- Build relationships with emerging co-located partners at the YMCA Healthy Living Campus

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Typically works in a classroom and/or office setting with a controlled temperature environment. Occasional exposure to inclement weather conditions may occur depending upon assignments.
Equipment: Required to maintain a working knowledge of all office equipment including personal computers and printers, audiovisual equipment, telephone systems, copiers, fax machines, etc.
Hours: This position is typically expected to work 200 days. Evening or weekend meetings and/or activities will be scheduled as needed. This position may require travel to other offices, meetings, conferences and/or seminars.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, push/pull, climb, bend, and stoop.
