JOB DESCRIPTION
EARLY CHILDHOOD BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION SPECIALIST
PROGRAM: Head Start/Early Head Start
RESPONSIBLE TO: Director-Head Start/Early Head Start
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors in Psychology, Behavioral Health, Counseling or a related field, as well as three years of experience in related work. The Specialist must possess leadership, management and communication skills.
The Early Childhood Behavior Intervention Specialist must be able to stand, sit, bend and walk for periods of time to meet job requirements. Must have physical and TB test, and be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Must possess a valid driver's license, automobile liability insurance and have reliable transportation to travel to and from work, home visits, trainings and meetings (will receive mileage reimbursement based on OVEC's travel policy). All Head Start positions must clear and pass state criminal history records check and sex offender registry check prior to hire date and pass Child Abuse and Neglect state registry check (CAN) within 90 days of hire.
Alternatives to the above Minimum Qualifications as the Chief Executive Officer may find necessary and appropriate.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Specialist will provide support to teaching staff, families and children by assessing individual needs, completing follow-ups and ensuring utilization of local mental health programs such as Seven Counties and North Key Services. Completion of training credential if not already obtained.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Comply with Head Start Performance Standards as well as Kentucky Childcare Licensing regulations and Head Start and OVEC Policies and Procedures.
• Understand and comply with Child Care Licensing, STARS, ITERS (Infant Toddler Environmental Rating Scale), ECERS (Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale) and CLASS (Classroom Assessment Scoring System) as applicable to position.
• Offer support to teaching staff for behavior management, to include de-escalation and crisis management training, Behavior Intervention, modeling appropriate behavior strategies and conducting student observations
• Complete Individual mental health observations, write report and communicate with teacher, managers, family service staff and specialist on plan to implement including: classroom strategies and supports needed, RTI, behavioral plans, follow-ups.
• Meet with teachers and families to develop intervention plans for behaviors, share resources to support family with managing behaviors.
• Coordinate and oversee the KISSED and HELP Team training process, and conduct other Early Childhood trainings as requested.
• Plan, conduct and provide staff training regarding Early Childhood mental health.
• Actively communicate with teaching staff regarding progress and regressions.
• Review, monitor and complete classroom observations.
• Monitor and follow-up on child plans and implementation.
• Collaborate with outside agencies and families.
• Recommend mental health agencies for families and assist in helping families have access to these programs by supporting them with paperwork, meetings to ensure proper supports are in place. Follow up with families to determine if services are being utilized.
• Promote parent involvement in all aspects of the health program by serving as a member of the Program Planning Committee.
• Monitor Social/Emotional and Self Help data based on Dial and Brigance screenings and follow-up as needed.
• Utilize community resources in relation to Mental Health services that support children and families.
• Ensure mental health data is entered into ChildPlus and tracked as needed.
• Responsible for monitoring, documenting, and reporting classroom teacher/child ratios.
• Additional duties as assigned.
COMPENSATION: Annual contract with a maximum contract up to 240 days. Salary based on rank and experience in accordance to OVEC's Head Start/Early Head Start Certified Employee Salary Schedule
