Join UChicago Medicine, as a Dual Imaging Technologist (Mammo/Rad Tech) at the Orland Park clinic in the Imaging department
As a Dual Imaging Technologist, you will utilize appropriate principles of radiation protection, exercise professional judgment in the performance of imaging procedures and will responsible for providing appropriate care of patients in their charge. Imaging studies are provided in accordance with industry standards, department protocols, and hospital policies and procedures. You will also produce breast radiographs to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease for both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients. This position requires intimate patient contact, excellent communication skills and the ability to work with initiative and accuracy.
Essential Job Functions:
- Performs General Radiology Procedures as assigned.
- Reviews physician’s order to assure appropriateness of examination being requested.
- Performs a variety of general diagnostic studies with efficiency and high standards of quality according to set protocols established by radiologists.
- Ensure that the proper protocol is used for any given examination by selecting the appropriate exposure factors based on body part, pathology, patient’s age, and technical equipment characteristics.
- Reviews images for diagnostic quality, proper positioning, technique and identification, prior to submitting for interpretation.
- Prepares contrast media for administration to patients and assist physician in the performance of GI/GU studies.
- Reviews physician’s order to assure appropriateness of examination being requested.
- Selects appropriate exposure factors based upon breast tissue density, patient’s age, numerical compression scale, and technical equipment characteristics.
- Performs a variety of clinical breast procedures with efficiency and high standards of quality; assures that the proper protocol is used for any given examination; evaluates images for diagnostic quality prior to submitting for interpretation.
- Assist physician in set-up and performance of breast interventional procedures.
- Perform weekly QC as assigned.
- Assist in annual MQSA inspection preparation as requested.
- Responsibilities include but are not limited to imaging, patient education, data collection and maintaining regulatory compliance.
- Actively participates in the quality assurance program by performing specific quality control procedures as directed by the Imaging Center Leader or Imaging Team Leader
- Recognizes report and document malfunctions of technical equipment.
- Shares information about new techniques and procedures with colleagues; assists in the training of new staff and student technologists.
- Maintains physical work environment to be in compliance with regulatory certifying agencies
Required Qualifications:
- Certification from an approved AMA program in Radiological Technology
- Certified by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT)
- Licensed by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA)
- Current Advanced Certification Certificate in Mammography by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists, or completed within 1 year of hire
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a radiographer
- Must demonstrate excellent communication, customer service and interpersonal skills
- Must demonstrate good decision-making and judgment skills
- Must be able to function in fast paced environment
- Maintain required mammography continuing education as mandated by the Mammography Quality Standards Act
Licenses Required:
- American Registry of Radiological Technologists certification (ARRT)
- Illinois Emergency Management Agency licenses (IEMA)
- Advanced certification Mammography
- CPR and BLS training required
