SUMMARY: Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, the school counselor promotes student success, provides preventive services, crisis intervention, and responds to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that focuses on academic success, personal and social development and career and college counseling for all students. Services are provided through counseling curriculum, individual planning, responsive services, and support services. Services may be delivered through individual and group activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position.   • Analyze student data and develop data driven programs for intervention action plans.
  • Provide responsive services to individuals or groups on academic and personal issues.
  • Delivers individual and group counseling curriculum, supporting student development.
  • Provide an individual planning system to guide students toward postsecondary goals.
  • Assist students in the acquisition of study skills, academic opportunities, and postsecondary opportunities.
  • Provide system support to strengthen the efforts of teachers, staff, and parents.
  • Support standardized testing programs; parent education; staff development.
  • Advise seniors on graduation requirements, and help them plan their path to graduation, including changes and updates to their graduation plan
  • Provide seniors with periodic updates regarding their graduation status throughout the year
  • Completes ILPs and Senior meetings properly and in accordance with GCA's rules, procedures, and as directed by the Counseling & Student Support Services Director
  • Participate in department initiatives and projects as assigned
  • Create and support opportunities for growth in the areas of college and career readiness for our students
  • Stay up to date with trends and opportunities in the realms of college and career readiness
  • Present on Dual Enrollment in District and Department Events
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree of Education School Counseling or related field of study AND
  • Three (3) years of professional school counseling and/or advisement experience AND
  • Proven experience in effecting positive change in an educational setting OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:
  • GA PSC School Counseling License/Certificate P-12
  • desired GA PSC Teaching/Educational Certificate
  • Clear Fingerprint/Background Check Required.

OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, District and other applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures related to assigned activities and applicable duties
  • Acts proactively and looks for new opportunities to serve students and acts on them so that our team is always providing a variety of programs, internships, and learning opportunities for our students
  • Understanding of Georgia High School Requirements
  • Ability to read and understand high school transcripts

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prior grades 9-12 educational experience in Teaching, Counseling, Advising, Social Work, or related fields
  • Licensed Social Worker - LMSW
  • GA PSC Teaching/Educational Certificate
  • TKES/LKES credentialed
  • Public speaking experience
  • Previous experience as a Learning Coach, Advisor, or Teacher at Georgia Cyber Academy
  • Previous experience as an online educator or academic administrator
  • Knowledge of the SCSC Comprehensive Performance Framework
  • Knowledge of GaDOE CCRPI
  • Previous experience with online educational tools/curriculum/assessments
  • Expert Level skills with Microsoft Excel
  • Working knowledge of Naviance and Con App
  • Working knowledge of Infinite Campus (SIS)
  • Working knowledge of Canvas (LMS)
  • Working knowledge of Jigsaw Interactive (live classroom tool)
  • Proficient in use of Zoom conferencing tool
  • Bi-lingual

  • This is primarily a Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, 5 days/week, home-based position that may require traveling up to 25% of the time.
  • During critical periods, in-office days may be required. The noise level in the office is usually moderate (computers, printers, light foot traffic).
  • In-person attendance at professional development, training, conferences, job fairs, meetings, school events, marketing events, and testing sites will be required several times per year.
  • Light lifting required.
