Job Summary:
The Drop-Out Prevention Specialist helps students overcome problems that impede learning and to assist them in making educational, occupational, and life plans that hold promise for their personal fulfillment as mature and responsible men and women. Responsible for providing an appropriate PBIS program that will produce student knowledge, skills and attitudes in the educational, career and personal domains. Work with school counselors to increase graduation rate and decrease drop-out rate.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Orient students to school environment and to the systems and people with whom they have contact.
  • Meet with students to assist in planning high school and post-high school educational program.
  • Support counselors in all aspects of the school environment.
  • Ensure identified students have and use a four-year plan for his/her high school education.
  • Assist with CTE program implementation and identify students that have natural aptitude for this program.
  • Inform parents of students' activities in planning high school and post high school educational program that serve at-risk populations.
  • Support school administration with planning of interventions for most at-risk students.
  • Assist students and parents in processing applications for admission and financial aid opportunities as necessary.
  • Assess student knowledge, skills and attitudes to determine areas in which student needs assistance.
  • Plan and carry out appropriate activities and instructional programs that will help students achieve program goals and demonstrate desired competencies. Provide appropriate group and/or individual counseling as necessary for students to achieve program goals and demonstrate competencies.
  • Provide students and parents with information about additional family supports that are available to support students' well-being.
  • Provide parent training in Love and Logic.
  • Provide administration with electronic progress monitoring of identified possible drop-outs and status reports.
  • Coordinate and support building leadership with PBIS implementation.
  • Support school counselor with TESSA and Aspen Pointe programs.
  • Serve as a liaison with college, military and business representatives wishing to have contact with students.

Education, Training and Experience:
  • Possess or be eligible to receive Colorado Teaching License with appropriate endorsement.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Teaching, Counseling, School Social Work, Criminal Justice or related field.
  • Experience working with high school aged students in an at-risk environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Love and Logic, counseling at-risk students, and working knowledge of general school environment.
  • Good organization and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders within the school environment.
  • Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and conflict resolution.
  • Knowledge of and experience in Professional Learning Communities.
  • Proficiency in all areas of Microsoft Office.
  • Transcripts required.
  • Criminal background check and District fingerprinting required.

For the purpose of these Rules, credits shall be in semester hours or may be interpreted as meaning the equivalent in quarter, trimester, unit or term.
