GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Performs complex (journey-level) Customer Service work in support of the UCR Repository. Coordinates the dissemination of information and internal program support work. Assists in compiling and calculating statistical data regarding identified crimes and arrests made by law enforcement agencies throughout the State; includes checking, determining and attaining accuracy of reported data. Coordinates external Customer Service support and receiving and responding to agency requests for assistance; interacts with law enforcement agencies to coordinate corrections of data; and determines their needs in obtaining standard or special statistical data. May provide guidance to others. Work is performed under general supervision with limited latitude for the exercise of initiative and independent judgment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Confirm information from various and numerous monthly reports submitted to the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program by law enforcement agencies throughout the state.

2. Review and edit discrepancies on information in agency reports, verify calculations, and edit tables to identify and correct deficiencies, or route to field staff for correction in database files.

3. Respond to telephone inquiries from law enforcement agencies regarding procedures for completing monthly reports and answer general questions regarding National Data Exchange (NDEx) / UCR policy, procedure relating to programs.

4. Open and process any mail received by Bureau and scan any physical documentation so it can be stored electronically.

5. Provide input to the preparation and documentation of standard operating procedures.

6. Interpret and disseminate program reporting specifications, review electronic file raw data, and provide general support in trouble shooting data submissions.

7. Assist agencies with any data entry, data retrieval, and database searches. Advise supervisors of any data entry or system issues.

8. Assist in researching issues regarding the UCR system and public portal.

9. Process court ordered expunctions, ensuring expunged data has been or is removed from Texas Data Exchange (TDEx) / NDEx databases.

10. Attend work regularly and observes approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.

11. Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications


GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:

Education – Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent.

Experience – Minimum of one (1) year experience collecting, processing, and reporting criminal justice or similar data.

Licensure and/or Certification – If driving is required, must possess a valid driver license from state of residence.

Regulatory knowledge – Working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures.

Interpersonal Skills – Must demonstrate an ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy and an ability to establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers.

Organizational and Prioritization Skills – Must be organized, flexible, and able to effectively prioritize in a multi-demand and constantly changing environment; able to meet multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines without sacrificing accuracy, timeliness or professionalism.

Research and Comprehension – Must demonstrate ability to quickly and efficiently access relevant information, and be able to utilize and/or present research and conclusions in a clear and concise manner.

Analytical Reasoning/Attention to Detail – Must demonstrate an ability to examine data/information, discern variations/similarities, and be able identify trends, relationships and causal factors, as well as grasp issues, draw accurate conclusions, and solve problems.

Technology (computers/hardware/software/operating systems) – Must possess appropriate levels of proficiency with utilized software and systems and be able to learn new software/systems. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Confidentiality and Protected Information – Must demonstrate an ability to responsibly handle sensitive and confidential information and situations, and adhere to applicable laws/statutes/policies related to access, maintenance and dissemination of information.

Safety – Must be able to work in safe manner at all times, avoiding shortcuts that have potential adverse results/risks, and must be able to comply with safety standards and best practices.

A DPS employee who is selected for a position in the same salary group and state title as their current position will be transferred with no salary change.

A DPS employee who is selected for a position in their current salary group with a new state title may receive an increase of no more than 3.4% over their current salary regardless of posted salary.

Salary is contingent upon qualifications and is subject to salary administration and budgetary restrictions.
