Ideal Candidate
The Ideal Candidate will have one of the following:
- Graduate of an AMA accredited Radiation Therapy Technologist Program with 3 years of clinical experience as Radiation Therapist of which at least one year was spent as a simulation therapist
- Graduate of a Medical Dosimetry Program
- Bachelor's degree in a physical science
Responsibilities:
- Aid therapists during the simulation process. Act as a conduit for information between the simulation and dosimetry teams. This includes advising simulation team on setups to ease planning and informing dosimetry team about issues complicating setups.
- Must be knowledgeable in CT anatomy to contour normal tissue volumes, and capable of image fusion techniques to combine different data sets. Departmental policy requires that all contouring and fusion to be reviewed by a physician prior to clinical use, but it is expected that it will be performed at a level where it will only need “fine tuning” by the physician.
- With the guidance of a more senior dosimetrist or medical physicist, use the information acquired at simulation, and the prescription provided by the physician, to prepare isodose treatment plans that are acceptable to the physician. Compute verification calculations using departmental data resources as required. Transmit computed machine values and plan parameters to the electronic treatment management and recording system as directed by departmental guidelines. Prepare plan for final physician and physicist review.
- Assist the physician and/or technologist in setting up the patient treatment to the specifications on the treatment plan. Assist in the fabrication of custom treatment devices.
